the sundance channel this past sunday, on "docDay," aired a documentary, "with god on our side: george w. bush and the rise fo the religious right in america," that was a fascinating foray into the movement that helped ensure victory george w. bush and the GOP expand control of the congress.
conclusion: it's the God, stupid!
really, it was quite interesting (and entertaining) in that it featured interviews and commentary with and by leading members of the religious social conservative movement, tracing it from the middle of last century up until current day (it was release in october of last year, IIRC), as well as providing a glimpse at the movers and shakers then and now. it does well to understand thine enemy.

i was without an intrarwaeb connection for a week while having a second phone line (installed once upon a time to facilitate that antiquated "technology" known as dial-up) removed, save for the instances i was using my powerbook's airport capabilities to mooch an (unknown) neighbor's (oftentimes weak) wi-fi signal.
nevertheless, free wi-fi is the best.
^ that there was an unintentional rhyme, i swear.

*update* because it's necessary. and good. and because i'd like to ask, "why is everyone going gray (grey, if you prefer)? and when will they be back?"

i came across some old pics of me (recently developed though, i think...) from my embarrassingly d0rky-ass childhood. i think i'll scan and post when i get a chance (maybe by the weekend, but most likely not
).
i have word from a little bird that BART will be hiring in february for thirty train operator (T/O) positions. i doubt i'll meet the minimum qualifications though, namely the 2080 hours of work (one year full-time equivalent) requisite for the job; i've accumulated just over 1000 as of this entry. also, i do not know if they require a clean five-year driving record (i know CCCTA, the local bus operator, does). since i received my license at 16, i'd have to wait until i was 21 anyway. hopefully by then they won't have made a transition to fully automated operations
this could be me (without the 'stache and much leaner, of course):
