1 year ago today, I was made Staff photographer for Suicidegirls. I can't even begin to describe how much this website and job has changed my life and i'm glad that I know a group of unique beautiful women that I'm happy to call friends. This job has led me to new places and experiences and best of all enabled me to make a semi-living off of doing what I love. Taking photos.
here are some of my favorite shots from the last year as staff
Like all jobs it's important to state that it's more than just fun games and naked girls
even though pictures like this make it seem like thats all there is
at any rate It's important for me to realize that this just isn't any old job, this is a pretty kick ass job and incidents like last month make me REALLY appreciate my position, but I'm not going to dwell on it or hold me back or let it jolt my confidence anymore.
Photography has it's ups and downs and i've had a lot of experience with both of them in the last year here. To help me out when shooting and in an effort to up the consistency of my "excellent" sets here's a compiled list i've put together of tips and problems with possible solutions in order to make an excellent SG set
-Know your camera (I'm horrible at reading instruction booklets)
-Don't be afraid of high ISO, especially if you use nice glass and prime lenses
-if you use prime lenses be sure to switch them to get a nice variety of view points, and another 'look' (I need to do this more)
-Variety of shots is the splice of life
-Chimp less (I honestly think looking at the lcd screen after every shot is super counter productive and gets you out of your flow)
-Talk to the models (I need to do this more, i'm a bit of a social retard)
-Make sure the models DO NOT get High/Drunk on set. They shouldn't show up on a job drunk, this is the same thing
- Try not to mix lights
- Use a light meter
- Use a reflector
- STOP. AND. THINK.
- When shooting a set, use the WHOLE environment you're shooting in, not just a wall or window
- Themes are nice, but not as important as making the girl look good
- Always be humble and try and always strive to do better
- Don't let MR criticism get you down
- Keep a portfolio of poses and favorite sets. Study them.
- Looking at sets and photos is one thing, applying it to what you shoot is another
- Having an assistant is nice, it also protects both you and the model if anything crazy should arise.
- always be on the lookout for locations
- network
- Have fun
anyway thanks Missy, and Sean for giving me the chance
thank you Rambo for helping me out on my shoots and being a really great friend
Also thanks go to the other staff photographers here on site, especially Cherry for being a VAST container of knowledge and thinking that I have a lot of potential.
I'd like to think that in my first year here i've improved my photography a lot, and I plan on keeping improving. When I look at some of the other staff photographers beginner sets and compare them to their current sets, it's amazing how much everyone has improved. Some of them have 6+ years of experience and to think they've jumped that far in that amount of time lets me believe I'm capable of making that jump in work as well.
new set coming up Aleon
submitting soon Aeterna
this is my new SG shoot wishlist! I haven't updated it in awhile
