About Damn Time is Skkorm’s debut album now available on Itunes (https://itunes.apple.com/ca/album/about-damn-time/id712703362). Skkorm is Kyle Skkorm’s first solo album. Kyle is originally from Peace River Alberta. He’s been singing and playing bass since he was sixteen. Growing up a small town Kyle was heavily inspired as a musician by bands like Megadeth, Slayer, Killswitch Engage, and Motley Crue. Growing up he was part of a few bands with friends, but over the years everyone has went their separate ways. A year and half ago Kyle decided to pursue a solo career with a solo album as his goal. About Damn Time is very heavy and emotional. It’s got a wide range of rifts, creative lyrics and a good range of tempo. Personal experiences have driven Kyle to be a harder, more intense musician and listening to the album it really paints a picture of the man behind the music.
The album is comprised of both hard and soft songs. Every single one of the them is intense. The album’s title track About damn time starts out with a good mix of heavy and lights rifts and good strong vocals. The song is about how working a 9-5 job can really drive you crazy. “I won’t wait no longer, this world will be mine. It’s about damn time.” Being sick of the mundane is a concept everyone can relate to. Skkorm expresses frustrations and anger perfectly with simple but pointed lyrics.
Daughter of the devil is by far the most passionate and sexually charged track on the CD. It’s a brutal revelation of bad relationships. “I can’t get enough of the daughter of the devil”- being in a bad relationship can really fuck with your head. “She’s dragging me to hell.” He’s got a great array of emotion in this song. I really like the pointed honesty in this track. “In the eye of the hurricane where I found you again.” I enjoy albums with lyrics you can relate to. Definitely my favorite track on the CD.
The rest of the songs on the track really re-enforce a real, clean, blunt attitude as a passionate man bares his soul. The last time and The day I say goodbye are two tracks you really don’t want to miss.
The final song on the album In this moment was actually a rework of a song he wrote when he was 16. I like that this is the final track because it ends the album on a lighter note. This song highlights the diversity Skkorm has as an artist. While the album is predominately dark, this song shows a lighter more reflective side which works to balance out the whole feel of the album.
It’s refreshing to listen to such an honest expression of emotions. About Damn Time has a lot of aspects of the songs that got me into metal and heavier rock music. The lyrical style reminds me of some of the older tracks by Papa Roach and Three Days grace, and the music really hits home like the hard intensity of Megadeth and Killswitch. The album is very well rounded, and leaves little to be desired. As a debut album it really pulls the listener in, tells a story and leaves you hungry for more. I don’t know about you, but I hope we see alot more from Skkorm.
