PILLOWFIIIIIIIGHT!!!!!!!!
Bringing a bit of childish joy on a chilly spring day in Amsterdam, a mass pillowfight in the middle of the city.
People dressed as ninjas, still in their pyjamas, men in dresses and all the randomness you can imagine.
A cheesy eurodance tune pounding full blast out of a struggling stereo, a countdown and then feathery chaos and grins all round. There were dreadlocked backpackers being walloped over the head by a yummy mummy in Armani, little kids attacking hungover party goers it was an every man woman, child for themselves in a battle to see who could get their pillow to explode first.
Tourists, caught up in the middle of it, confused looks quickly changing to looks of child like joy, people transported from adult seriousness to a time when the scariest thing on earth was being caught by your parents when you were meant to be in bed sleeping.
just look at the smiles on these peoples faces - that is pure joy
This is what I love about this city, for all its ever so serious stylish coolness and it's international reputation for the seedier side of life, every now and again, things like this happen that just make you smile and forget about things for half an hour.
Whether it is a cafe owner who sets up a table and chairs on a frozen canal, naturists having a game of football (soccer) in a park in the middle of the city or bikini clad girls paddle boarding along a canal or the sign above a rather expensive clothing shop for women that declares Fuck the credit card bill there is just always something quirky happening that makes me smile.
I realised today that I only have 2 and a half years left in Amsterdam, where I go to next I am not sure, but wherever it is, it will have to be seriously good to compete with this place.

I had no idea things like that went on in Amsterdam.
