Fractal and courtneyriot just visited Portland, I had lots of fun with them. It was a nice escape and it was fun to play tour guide for Portland.
Here are a few pics from the visit:

You can see her blog post about it here: http://fivetwentythree.com/2009/06/portland-recap/
Random bits:
Ive been collecting vinyl toys and giving them to friends(and keeping a few for myself):

Its a nice way to distract myself from reality a little. And what better a time in my life than my 28th year to start collecting toys. Cute, huh? I really hope people think that i'm losing it. The joke's on them though, cause I never had it in the first place.
SPEAKING OF WHICH. 'Ive been listening to *gasp* Hollywood Undead,
hahahhahaah

^These guys are totally douchey, retarded and juvenile, but the music is so god damned catchy it's hard to turn off. Probably makes me lose a few brain cells, but at least it keeps me moving when Im jogging. Still losing weight!
Also, I did a shoot with a girl ive been wanting to work with for a while, Kellie. Here are a few pics:

Full flickr set here(you need a flickr account to view, sorry):

My book/gallery project has been a little slow to start, and Im not sure how to pitch it to everyone that I want to work with, but I have a feeling it will be kind of slow all the way through if Im going to do what I want to do. Time isnt really a factor, I just want to make photos that I love. Here's one that I just finished(t that kind of shows the direction I want to go in); brighter, more surreal, and more conceptual:

Again, if you want to stalk me, Facebook. , Twitter.
<3<3<3 don't do drugs!
ADDED! pic of soya with famous internet milkshake bringeth poem on it!:

It's been a while since an update. Life has been fabulous. This weekend was so nice and sunny here in Portland, I can only be super grateful. Also I'm convinced I have the best friends in the world. So there's that. Job's been good. 9-5 m-f. I don't mind being employed right now so my thoughts can ferment about where I want to go with photography.
I'm starting a new photo project, and am preparing for that constantly. It's going to be amazing, just wait till you see what will come of it.
I'm still wanting Soya to come to Portland to at least visit. Or stay, I wouldn't mind. She has the most amazing face on the planet, and is an amazing person on top of that
. [11/10/2010- EDIT: NOT TRUE AND DO NOT WANT haha] I hope hope hope to have her in front of my lens for my new project, a lot.
I hope you all are doing wonderfully, <3
and to top it off so it's not just a bunch of words on the screen, heres a pic of the ever-beautiful [but completely ugly on the inside] , Soya :

OH AND! This song is awesome. http://listen.grooveshark.com/#/song/The_Diary/12835100
oh and PS, my BMI is now 'healthy' instead of 'slightly overweight'. good news.

Wahoo! I finally finally finally got myself a portable power supply, the Vagabond II, for my alien bee lights!

This means I'll be able to shoot wherever I want with studio lights. This is, simply put, fucking awesome. And way overdue. Beach shoots. Desert shoots. Forest shoots. All lit completely beautifully and un-naturally. So anyone who wants to do an outside set this summer in Portland or Seattle, message me. These last 4 months have been so difficult/rewarding. I finally feel like I have my life back in order after paying the price for being a starving artist for so long....:
Being single, check. Being in shape, check. Supa fast computer, check. Stable job, check. Car, check. Drivers License, check. GPS for car, check. Studio lights, check. Portable power for the lights, check. Best family and friends in the world, check.
Also! I'm planning a road trip up and down the west coast sometime around mid-June. I'm trying to convince Soya to join me on it, and will for sure meet up with Fractal to collaborate on some shoots when I get to the LA area. Anyone on the west coast who wants to shoot, send me a message.
Anyways. I can't do a blog without a picture. Here's one that I worked on recently that i'm pretty sure I like of my favorite model ever, Roxy. This was taken (kind of) candidly at a 'nautical' themed party in N. Portland.

UPDATE [3/31]: More pics of Soya on my flickr photostream
Soya's new set, Guilty By Design, just went up!!! Wa hoo. I love this girl. She visited Portland a few months back and we shot this set, and also our other set, Cymagen. And we also had about 3 other photoshoots and various other snapshots. I shot about 2000+ shots total while she was here. She needs to move to Oregon! Here's a few portfolio shots we did on the side
.

More on my flickr of her(you need a flickr account to see these):
here,
here,
here,
and
here.
if you can't get to those links go to my photostream here:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/cymagenpdx
then click on "Collections". There should be a collection called "Suicide Girls" and in that, there should be a collection of Soya
. And also candids and other shoots of all the fab girls on this site that i've shot.
And there's more to come, so stay tuned!

ALSO!!! I'm entering the wide wide world of 3D modeling&rendering. I'm going to dive nose-first into Maya, Hypershot, and VUE6 ...
Don't worry I haven't become a gamer ... or an animator. I'm going to be modeling and rendering detailed objects and backgrounds that I can use for photo composites in the future
. Hopefully when I get good enough, you won't be able to tell. The 3D software on the market now really kicks ass in terms of realism...it's not quite there now, but it will be soon. Lots of good shit coming up.

Hello everyone! Let me preface this blog by saying how thankful I am to be on this site and to have been given all the opportunities to meet everyone that I have, and to have shot all the pictures that I have. I noticed a comment in the negative reviews part of Guilty by Design of Soya that said:
“I find it really hard to care about anything Cymagen does after hearing about his unprofessional behavior.”
Unprofessional? How? Please give specifics. Or at least give me an awesome Perez Hilton style picture with white mouth drippies and a funny catch phrase on my chest. At least that's funny.
I love being an SG staff photographer. I am completely professional in my conduct with models and during any shoot. This is pretty much a no-brainer. I have always respected women(I was raised by 2 of them!) and everyone’s self-image. I know how important it is to feel beautiful and respected. I have been nothing but cordial and completely professional on all of the shoots I have done. If you have ever shot with me, you know this. And if you don’t know this, you probably haven’t shot with me.
However. Even though we are ‘staff’ photographers, we all reserve the right to shoot who ever we want. Every photographer picks who they shoot because, unlike being traditionally employed as 'staff', SG can chose whether or not to pay us for our product. If you find that on the rare occasion, that a photographer will not answer your e-mails, you can always shoot a set yourself and submit it, or find a friend or professional photographer to shoot one for you.
Also, though this is rare, a photographer can chose NOT to post a set, even after it’s been shot (if the model did not pay a sitting fee). It can be that the set isn’t good enough, the model caused drama afterwards, or any other number of reasons(one of the reasons ive been sitting on a set is because I had a slow computer, now I have a fast one and am workin on it!!!). But of the 60+ sets I’ve shot this has only happened about 5 times. I can understand the frustration this causes but it usually leads to a lot of name-calling on the site that has nothing to do with my professionalism or actual conduct. It’s just that: name calling.
Also, I have the disadvantage of being a male photographer on a female oriented site, so I can only guess that doesn’t work in my favor and would only work to precipitate any name calling.
I guess I should be flattered that I have haters, eh?
Please use the comments section of this blog to leave constructive feedback or feel free to e-mail me at cymagen@gmail.com . Positive comments are welcome too!!!
PS…I’m loving my new computer, its so freaking fast! I can’t wait to get out of work and work on all my pictures!
