Eck. I've been so outta date with this journal shit. Let's see... I left off right before AthFest...
*flashback sequence*
Whoah. Got to see ALOT of really good music over that weekend. On Friday, I went to Engine Room to start it all off. Sci Fu was wrapping up their set. 30 seconds of fury. Left earplugs in car. Damn. Then I ran to GA Theatre to see Squat. Last song was freebase jazz. 3 minutes of wave-crashing cymbals. Left earplugs in car. Fawk. AMF was next; it would be back-n-forth there. High BPM jungle with djs Synapse, Organik, and D:RC (I hate E-tards.) Then finally, off to Lunch Paper to see Thread. Brit pop meets the dirty south who's occupied by Ohioan rock influence. Rawk.
Earplugs. Psssht. Glad they're in the car.
Saturday was another story. Started around 2:30 pm. Crammed 15 or so bands and performers and proally about 24 or 25 pints in 12 hours. I went to Boneshaker's 2.0 to catch Ganesh spinning a phat dub set, followed up by a few friends of mine tricking it all out. No time, must go... Claire and Bain's Maple Yum-Yum on main stage. Smoke break in Mean Mike's and food at the Neon Bathroom (the Grill.) Off to AMF for a hip-hop showcase with eLMeNOP, Scramm, Isshues, and R.U.S.S.I.A. Did not stay for Low Down & Duddy. Sprinted with a few friends to ER for Carrie Nations and Menlo Park, then from there to Lunch Paper for 3 O'Clock Sandbox and DONKEY PUUUUUNCH!!! Wohooo! Earplugs? Shit. Hauled ass to Tasty World for another smoke break and to see Paper Lions and Jet By Day. No time for a shot- well, okay. chug it. Off to the 40 Watt for Blackcowboy where a good friend of mine did a very tasteful secret agent strip tease onstage to a live funk band with a trick dj on backup. Raw. And the event I've been waiting for all weekend; Jucifer. Ultra-fawking raw. They were on time AGAIN. biggrin Back to Mean Mike's for a repeat blunt session and off to an afterparty with some raunchy downtempo and airy house. Fawk, I've gotta be at werk in 3 hours.
Blah. I hate the hangover fairies. Werk sucked. Japancakes was really good for a finale for me. Spent almost all week to recooperate. Found out that my ex-girl's boy's car got stolen last week. hahahahaa! People insist I had a hand in it. I am stating I have NO knowledge of said event-er, um incident. Got an airtight alibi. Goes to show karma is a bitch, but not unless you smack her first. tongue

Woohooo! Went to the Jucifer CD release party @ Lunch Paper last night. You really can't beat free PBR with a whiffle ball bat. Now, if you guys aren't familiar with Jucifer, it's a 2 member band starring Ed and Amber. Amber Valentine is like 5'5" and a voice that makes clouds disappear. She is the lead vocals and plays a mean 6-string bass, donning 12" stacks, 60's go-go outfits and a hairstyle that puts Peggy Bundy to shame. She reminds me alot of PJ Harvey versus Lil' Bo Peep. Her lyrics are emphasised by giddy whispers, yelps, keens, and growls. Ed Livengood is the energy ball behind the drums. Bound by old weathered rubberbands and duct tape, he's sure to get you jumping (either to avoid his spit or by force.) Imagine if you will, Animal from The Muppet Show with old Public Enemy beats stuck in his head and you'll have a good idea on how his H-bomb performance rates. For over 4 years, Jucifer has been delicately blasting Athenians with their own distinctive approach to rock’n’roll that combines drastic dynamics with minor key melodies, dreamy, sometimes scornful lyrics and a healthy sense of humor. There's already buzz about an IDM remix of a song or two by a friend of mine, Stuart. So, yes, kiddies. Obey. Go get their new album, I Name You Destroyer. Guaranteed to make you sane again.

Nothing says, "you're on the wrong side of the tracks" quite like waking up to a bout of good ole' fashioned domestic violence in front of your house. Some couple was in a shouting match; then came the silence. I heard the unmistakable sound of flesh-on-flesh, *POW!* I leapt out of bed to rush to the window and saw I had a perfect frame for what was to unfurl. A woman lay quivering, clutching her jaw; pouting as if she were young again and her favorite toy was smote by rage. I look down the street to witness the perpertrator get broadsided by three well-rounded bruthas pummeling the shit out of him. And as if I were directing the scene, on cue, a squad car chirped his tires to inform them that he was now in charge. Poor girl. I should be grateful that law enforcement responds so well over here. Maybe it was a fluke. They're remodleing Dunkin' Donuts down the street, so there is no reason for them to be down this way. Had to be.

I got to see The Melvins on Wednesday @ the 40 Watt. I'm very disappointed that Zeke wasn't there. They were replaced by a horrible cock-rock band called Bad Wizards. Eck.
