"At the innermost core of all loneliness is a deep and powerful yearning for union with one's lost self."
Brendan Francis

"I know the night is not the same as the day: that all things are different, that the things of the night cannot be explained in the day, because they do not then exist, and the night can be a dreadful time for lonely people once their loneliness has started."
Ernest Hemingway

~ We're all lonely for something we don't know we're lonely for. How else to explain the curious feeling that goes around feeling like missing somebody we've never even met? ~
D.F. Wallace

This Thursday might be a good day. I'm starting a new part-time job today, so I'll have a better clue as to my availability after I check the schedule later.

And stop being all mopey, goofball kiss Just c'mon down to Salem tonight to hang if you need some company. I'll be home by 7.

what are you doing next weekend? my friend beth and i have been talking about doing some short, easy, overnight hikes. we could use someone to go with us who has more of a clue what he's doing than we do...

This sounds fun. I'm supposed to work but I am really going to try to get out of it. Which night were you thinking of going?

I was thinking Saturday night. It would have to be a really really easy overnight if we did Friday, because Beth won't be home from work until maybe 5 at the earliest if she's really lucky.

Two questions: one, would Friday afternoon work? Please say no! Beth wants to go Friday, but I have to work 4AM to noon, so Friday is not really tops on my list! (But of course, I'm a good friend, so I'm humoring her and checking.)

Question 2: where did you have in mind? Beth bookmarked a bunch of hikes, but I trust your judgment more on picking something not too hard, too far away, or too terribly crowded. A few of the ones she bookmarked looked a little challenging, considering that I haven't gone backpacking since I was 13, I think.

Yes, Saturday is definitely better. I can have a couple spots picked out in case we need them.

I asked for the time off... Sunday's no problem but if nobody takes my shift on Saturday I'm gonna have to decide if I want to call in sick for the day. I think it will be easy to convince me but you might have to do some convincing wink

cool. beth seems very gung-ho on the planning, so i am leaving her in charge of that task. once she comes up with a final destination, i'll run it by you for an opinion, but she seems pretty comfortable with it so i'm leaving her to it.

for convincing, hm, lessee... two adorable girls want you to come help them do woodsy things and in exchange they'll pick you up, transport you, feed you, give ya some liquor, and drop you back home again. do ya need more convincing than that? biggrin

Jen, you will not believe this. The people at my work are being absolute fucktards and don't want me to have any fun in my life whatsoever. For three weeks in a row they canceled my trips. As soon as I tell them I want the weekend off they go all out to make the trips happen so I will have to work. DIABOLICAL FIENDS!!! mad

I was definitely going to call in for one day but I don't know if I can really call in for two days that I had requested off. I would just as soon quit but I don't have another job yet. There will be revenge, there will be retribution for these actions. I WILL HAVE MY COMEUPPANCE! ARRR!!!

Anyways, if anything changes I will let you know but it looks doubtful. My plan is to take back my weekends since they have been canceling all my trips anyways...so you and me and Beth will have to go camping sometime soon smile
