Wow! It has been one busy ass month! I am volunteering as a tutor, esl teacher, tech thrift store geek, mentor, roadie, and I am teaching science. I went from nothing to do to nearly too much!

It is fun though.

It seems I am destined to update twice in a 24 hour period...

I was talking about the wonderful job I am working at and filling time with volunteer work. I figured I would have something to do and lean from, the group would have my help and I would have resume fodder.

Well today I volunteered for no other reason then it sounded interesting. Today was the 13th Annual Mochitsuki festival in Portland. I had seen a listing via Craigslist and had volunteered my time. I had not heard much from them so I was thinking maybe they did not need me. I left a message last night saying to call if I was needed. The phone rang early this morning and I was glad it did. Now, I feel I should tell you that I am on a Japan kick and I can't quite get enough. I am addicted to anime, which is a new development, and I bought a Japaneses language learning kit. I have been listening to the same ten words for the last week as they never seem to stick.... but I am determined to learn this language. So when I saw a posting about helping out with the Japanese New Year Celebration it seemed fortuitous. What I got was a little of an education and an overall nice time. I found out mochi was sweet sticky rice pounded into a dough. I learned the word onara.... from a very amusing story from a fantastic storyteller. I met people who like anime and enjoy talking about my latest obsession. I ate a lot of food and tried a Japanese beverage that was not sake or a beer. It is in a glass bottle and is sealed with a glass marble but I can't recall the name. I met fantastic and super nice people. I leaned about taiko drumming and I am thinking of joining a taiko drumming class. I had a good time and I helped out some as well. If you are in Portland next year around this time put this on your calendar. smile

So I am kind of employed. i have a part time gig doing an after school program 3 days a week. It's an hour long and I have a good time.

I am also about to start doing volunteer work. Seems like the only blokes actually hiring are volunteer peeps. Volunteering should help me get more experience and puff up my resume.... That is my theory anyway
