I haven't really updated anything serious for awhile. Its not because I don't love you guys, but because just not a lot has been happening. That is neither good nor bad, just steady life. Still, here's whats been going on:

I joined a Bowling League. Its fun. I'm now consistently bowling over 100, and hoping to continue to get consistently better. Before I could have a massive game, followed by a game of under 60. I want to be able to bowl and know I'll break 100 (unless I'm half a bottle of vodka in).

My job has given me some extra benefits which makes it more manageable. If I do well at something I used to train people at, I can make bonus money. I still hate customer service, and I hate the fact that I have this awesome degree and I'm not using it. But, I might start making $50k/year, or just about, and that's one of those life goal kind of things Adults aim for and stuff.

I'm still doing my comic book. I like it. If you are on the facebooks, like the Facebook page or follow @DameonStrykes on twitter. Or just read my comic book.. I just released my favorite page so far. Image was too big to link.

For physical health, right now I feel cruddy. The sickness hasn't knocked me out, but its making breathing fun. As an asthmatic, breathing is always fun. But, I have a race tomorrow (12k, or just about 7.5 miles), and I have a race nearly every month this year. YAY racing. Also, I've started the p90x work outs, so I can start kicking my ass doing that.

I finished my tattoo last night. A total of 6-8 hours went into this baby.

My living situation is awesome, but my roommate is planning on potentially making some big life changes. Every other month, I get told "in a few months I might be moving. I'll let you know." The opposite months, "All is well, I'm staying!" Personally, she's the best roommate I've had (that hasn't been a GF), so I'll stay as long as possible. I'd like to try to live somewhere for more than a year. I haven't done that since I was in High School.

I was going on dates with this girl, but that kind of flopped. The first night she was on, flirty, and into me. Since then she's kind of been meh. We've gone on 3 or 4, and I invite her to join me on things I go to, and sometimes she shows, sometimes she doesn't. *shrug*

In more positive news, there's this bartender I've been crushing on for over a year. She's an awesome person, works at my favorite bar, hosts my favorite night, and when the bar is empty we'll just chat it up. While I think dating her would be awesome, just being her friend would be a pleasure. She's the Bees Knees , if you will.

I had asked her out once. We never could get plans together, and after awhile she decided she "shouldn't mix business with pleasure."

Well, I asked her out again recently, and she gave me her phone number. I'm super excited and happy. Its awesome that she trusts me with that. But now... not sure how to proceed. I'm not sure if I did something last time that made her change her mind from "Yes" to "I shouldn't hang out with patrons," or if there were outside factors. I don't want to abuse the power of having a phone number, but neither do I want to give up after a few "Sorry, I'm busy"s. So far all I've done is made sure her number worked, made sure texting was cool, and let her know what my schedule is.

Again, she's a cool person. I've had some good conversations with her, we're into similar things. I'd like to get to hang out with her, see if anything happens, and if not...I'd be happy either way. But I do want a shot, and I want to make sure when I take that shot I don't blow my foot off!

It'd also just be nice to broaden my horizon of friends. All my friends in Portland are of the LGBTQ group. I fucking love them, its great. But, I'm not super into gay dance parties, It'll be really hard for me to meet someone in that crowd*, and some people in the LGBTQ crowd don't like hanging out with guys that are obviously straight. It makes them uncomfortable, and that discomfort makes me uncomfortable as well. I understand why, and most of the time its cool. Still, it'd be nice to get to hang out with people outside of that group, such as have friends who want to go to rock / metal shows with me, or go to bars that play industrial and goth music.

*On a note, I don't go or hang out with those friends with that intention, and when I'm hanging out with them its rarely on my mind. But, it is on my mind when I'm bored.

I always say that when my life is boring I am actually thankful. That means that things are going a-okay

The tattoo came out great! Don't worry about shooting your own foot off, she sounds like she is cool with you.

I haven't bowled in years. They keep closing the bowling allies here and putting up shopping centers.
Have a great weekend.

I'm a big fan of the tatt and your writing skills my friend (I'm excited to see more of your comics). And good luck with that bartender, it's a constant struggle trying to find that person you can really vibe with, but it sounds like you guys do. I hope it works out well for ya. also gracias for the compliment.

Love the tattoo, now you need a power loader with ripely opposite that tattoo.

I hope I can keep up with this regime, for whatever redone I have found both the willpower and motivation to get this done. I can only hope it holds out.

Before I start here, I disagree with gun bans. I believe in licenseeing and registration. And just like with a car, where there is a different license between a motorcycle, a car, and a semi-truck, I think there should be different level of licenses between guns and how dangerous they are. This is neither unconstitutional, and if the licenseeing classes are cheap(ish) and readily available, will not prevent citizens from legally acquiring weapons. Registration will also greatly hinder weapons falling into the hands of criminals (its estimated that 40% of weapons used by criminals were straw purchases).

Licensing and registration do not work. Almost everyone I know that rides a motorcycle doesn't have a motorcycle endorsement on their license even though its required. and i know a few truck drivers that don't have a CDL.

As for the Genocide comment...that's not actually as true as people think. Australia and some other countries have had massive gun control laws passed, and no Genocide. Meanwhile, in Nazi Germany, the Nazis were actually DEREGULATING the weapons to help arm the Aryan race for the coming genocide (post WWI and Treaty of Versailles, Germans weren't allowed to own any type of weapons).

I was actually referring to third world dictators and warlords that have placed themselves in power. Mogadishu, Bosnia, etc. where "ethnic cleansing" have taken place

You also mentioned evil people will still do evil. This is true. But, if you stab someone directly in the heart, they have at least a 40% chance of survival. You shoot someone, they have, at most, 20% survival. You can repeatedly bludgeon someone in the head and not kill them. You shoot them in the head, chances are slim they will survive. And that's one on one. The guy in China who attacked school children with a knife killed 0 children. No-one died. Because it was a knife. If it was a gun, they'd be dead.

According to FBI statistics 1/3 of all murders committed in America last year were with knives, bludgeons, or bare hands. But those murders never make national news. The remaining 2/3s of murders by firearms do not separate those murders that are ruled "justifiable homicide" from law enforcement or self defense

1. You mean like malls, churches, school, and movie theaters? This is an easy question to answer. It has nothing to do with the lack of guns, and everything to do with the number of people. If you are trying to kill the most number of people, you don't go into the middle of the woods to shoot people, you need some place public.

Then why don't these incidents occur at sporting event or concerts where there are usually armed security and cops?

I believe that statement is misleading. The worst shooting was the Newton, CT shooting, which does have some strict gun laws. But Virginia Tech shooting? Kip Kinkel's shooting in the 90s? If your statement is accurate (which there would have to be a large discussion as to what is considered "Strict" and what isn't), I think we'd see something like a 60-40 split, while your statement leads one to believe its like a 80-20 split.

What? You think we aren't upset about that? Why would you think that?

What's the daily homicide rate of Chicago, New York, or L.A.?
Why does a single gunman with mental issues draw more media attention then a gang member that pulls a drive by that kills just as many people?

There is a large difference between drugs and weapons. Again, I don't agree with bans, but drugs I can make at home. A large number of my friends brew beer in their own house. I don't associate with too many pot-smokers, but many of the ones I do grow from home. A number of those also grow shrooms. Meth labs in people's garages are not rare.
But how many of the people I know can manufacture a working projectile weapon? Let alone a high powered, semi-automatic, weapon?

I can legally manufacture anything from a "zipgun" (with very little knowledge or expertise)to an AR-15 under current state and federal regulations with out having to register them, as long as it is not a full automatic or not intended to be sold. If you search YouTube you can find hundreds of videos demonstrating how to make them and how well they function. But the basis for my question is, how ineffective laws are. If people want to engage in an activity that is deemed to be criminal no amount of regulation or punishment will differ them.

If Gun bans only cause genocides in third world countries, than we don't have to worry about a genocide in the US.

With the ever increasing national debt and unemployment rates, and the diminishing returns on the educational system in America, I think we are well on our way to becoming a third world country. in fact, some parts of America are surprisingly like third world countries.

I use a knife every day. I have never stabbed someone. I use it to prepare food. I use to eat my food. I use it to cut wood. I use it for a hundred other things than hurt, maim, or destroy.
I rarely use a gun. When I do use a gun, the only intent I have with that gun is to destroy something. Whether that be a target or in hunting, the purpose of a gun is to destroy something.
If we compare the number of guns there are to the number of knives, bludgeons, and hands, as well as how often these items are used, we'll see that guns are used to kill significantly more than anything else.

I carry a pistol everyday every place I'm legally allowed. With the exception of my time in the military I've never fired at anyone.

So we should never have laws. Ever.

That's an extreme over simplification isn't it? What I'm saying is, what good are new laws when the existing laws aren't being adequately enforced. Or when the punishments for crimes aren't severe enough to deter the activity
