First the good news: Cold is almost gone. Hottubs are a wonderful thing, but that 10 foot naked dash in the cold breeze to get back inside is NOT a pleasant experiance tongue

Now the bad news: Everywhere I look on SG, people are in pissy moods. Buncha grumps. Boo to all grumps tongue

And now for something completely different:

GAH! DRAMA! Is there any group that isn't full of useless drama? I've dropped all but two of the groups I was a part of, and am thinking of dropping those, too. The PSW group is normally fun, but lately has become filled with useless crap. And the book lovers group I'm in is becoming overrun with classic-lit snobs who think that if something isn't on the "CLASSICS" shelf in a bookstore, it isn't worth looking at. Well, I've been teaching lit for years, and I can tell you that there is far more great literature that wasn't written by dead Europeans, centuries ago. There is more coming out all the time. My prefered way of finding books is to check for first time authors, and I've found some wonderful gems that way. Frankly, sticking just to the classics is a sign of a closed mind.

And yes, I do enjoy some books that can be found at the grocery check-out. They can be a fun way to spend a few hours, even if they don't meet Dickensonian levels of literary greatness.

Actually, some other teachers and I are thinking of new lit classes we'd like to teach. Our latest idea was "Uncomfortable Lit" which would include the book that has the original "Brokeback Mountain" short story, a book on gay life in New York which includes some donkey sex, and we're looking for books on cannibalism, and a few other things. Anybody have any book suggestions?

Sometimes I feel my job is one of the most futile around. College freshmen should have to pass a basic writing test before they can even apply to schools. "There, They're, and Their" are different words! Essays have a logical, linear order! CLICHES ARE POINTLESS! IT'S CALLED A COMMA, DUMBASS!

And that leaves out the writing that simply rehashes the same ideas I've seen from 100 previous students, and it wasn't that great of an idea to start with. Are they too scared to go in a new direction? Are they blind to the world around them? Do they realize that Wikipedia and Fox News are useless sources? GAH!!!

Whoever came up with the idea of Celeb-TV should be beaten with a dead weasel.

Wow, the Current Events board has gone to shit in these last few days. And I probably made it worse. I didn't do the right thing and just ignore the trolls. I engaged. It's sickening how many trolls have cropped up in the last 48 hours. True, some have been there for awhile, but it just seemed worse this last weekend. I like going in there to see what is going on in the world, discuss it with people, and see if I can't learn something.

Ain't it always the truth that a few bad assholes can ruin a good thing. It's almost put me off the boards altogether.

***EDIT***
Is it just me, or are several of the trolls former Newswire writers?

It is my birthday tomorrow. Thank you to eveyone who wished me well smile

Now that I'm 30 . . . .fuckit, I still refuse to grow up. It's too late for me to reserve the local ball-pit, but I can still have cake for breakfast biggrin

GAH! I turn 30 in just over a week!!

I'm kind of disappointed in my self. I thought I would have gotten a book published, lost a bunch of weight, and maybe have had a really meaningful relationship with a woman by now.

Yeee-up . . . guess which of those has happened.

I've kind of been going through my friends list and removing the ones I can't remember hearing from. If I deleted you and I shouldn't have, please feel free to re-friend me smile
