I have a new theory about gunshows.
I attended the local annual gunshow this morning, and was seriously frightened by what I saw. Well well over half, probably closer to 3/4ths of the guns being sold have no purpose beyond killing people:
Military style assault rifles
Short Barrelled, pistol-grip shotguns
Semi-auto, high capacity magazine pistols.
Knives meant for cutting nothing other than people.
Here's my theory: There is a very good chance there will be a Dem president very soon, which means there is a farily good chance of another assault weapons ban. Dealers know this, nutjob-buyers know this, and they are hell-bent on buying whatever they can before they become illegal to buy again.
This batch of unwashed, uneducated hillbillies scare the shit out of me. They're just looking for the chance to kill someone. In most cases, they don't care who. Throw in some severe racisim, sexism, paranoia and fear, and you come to the reason I keep a gun: To protect me from these nutjobs.

Some of my students seem to have declared today to be "Cleavage Day". This puts me in a difficult position. I try not to think of my female students as the desireable young women they are. But when two of them (a short redhead with boobs to spare and a slim Japanese girl with more than is normally expected in her cups) are showing me the upper half (or more), I can't help but look. I try to look away, but my eyes are still drawn back from time to time. I just make sure I don't do more than glance, then look somewhere else.
But it isn't easy
For those concerned about age, I teach college, so all my students are of legal ages

I have an idea for an article, but I don't know if it's worth bothering with. I'd like to compare the actions of G. W. Bush to the list of complaints leveled in the Declaration of Indepedence. I've got all the comparisons worked out, but it might be too late in the term for it to matter.
Ideas? Anti-ideas?

I'm not religious. I was raised as a Catholic, but I've kind of broken away. I enjoy studying what people believe, and why they believe, but I never feel like joining in.
That being said, I have this very strong urge to go on a pilgrimage through the holy sites of Spain and France, and over to Italy.
It is a strange feeling.
