For the last (almost) 8 hours, I have been dealing with a file that is over, yes over 2 gigs. Actually it's probably around 5gigs, but according to Photoshop it won't let me save the file because the max out point is at 2.

I cannot resize, I cannot save. I am just sitting here...waiting.

Madness I tell ya, absolute madness!

But on the upside, this "little" piece of SG-ness looks really cool!

I really would love to see it. Do me a screen shot wink
Has this file got a gazillion layers then?

There is a way of saving the file beyond the 2GB limit. You have to have CS or CS2 though. If you have here's how to do it in the spoiler!

SPOILERS! (Click to view)

Use Adobe's new Large Document Format (PSB). Before you can use the Large Document Format option, you'll have to open Photoshop's file handling preferences and turn the feature on.

Mac: Photoshop > Preferences > File Handling
Windows: Edit > Preferences > File Handling

Click the 'Enable Large Document Format (.psb)' box.

Once the option is activated in preferences, the Large Document Format becomes an option in your standard Photoshop save dialog box.

This should solve your saving problem smile

Oh right!
So you cant stop it saving, so it's still open and un-saved, and then change the preferences, and then try and re-save with .psb?

I'll try and think of another idea in the meantime. If I do think of something, I'll let you know within 30mins.

I know how frustrating it is, as I've been there!

Sorry, can't think of anything else apart from you stopping the saving process (or waiting for it to stop naturally) and changing the prefs and resaving as a Large Document Format.

I'm pretty sure you can change the prefs without quitting PS first.

I wish I could be of more help. Stupid machines eh?!

I know this is kind of an "old school" fix, but when I was working on HUGE files at Disney a few years ago, we used to clear out the cache manually in photoshop before we saved - that usually helped a lot. Clear everything out including the undo's. It tends to free up memory and make it possible to save. At least it used to. I don't do much large format work anymore, so I'm not sure. Worth a shot...

Good luck - I feel your pain.
