a night in the life:

so I had the shittiest day at work so when I get home I nap and then I was in the bathroom with my ipod dancing around and lipsynching to jack off jill and my boyfriend walked in on this and started cracking up. Somehow even after living together over a year he had managed not to witness one of these episodes. So I say... "I had a bad day" and he says "I know, let's go to candy cane lane" for you non-LA people (lucky bastards) Candy Cane Lane and it's neighboring streets Bell Lane and Candle Light Lane are a neighborhood that decks their houses the fuck out for christmas like woah. So we made chocolate chip cookies to bring and went. Then all that was left was to pick the music.

Ryan: I don't want to listen to crazy angry punk girl music or like, the decemberists....

Emily: I wasnt going to play those....

Ryan: Just making sure...

Emily: well... what DO you want to listen to?

Ryan: I dunno... like.... Bilie Holliday.....

long overdue update... so I've been working for bare escentuals cosmetics for about 5 months now and it is a decent job and all. Ryan and I have a nice new apartment... it's a bit..... "colorful".... "quirky" even and has thin walls and is next door to a fire department and i'm pretty sure our upstairs neighbor is an elephant but it's spacious and it's ours so i love it. Very excited about Obama. Very disappointed about prop 8. Now you are vaguely caught up on my life. Do you feel whole now? I bet you do my two loyal readers.

hoooray I start my new job tomorrow! I'll be a hostess at the restaurant my boyfriend works at... I already know a lot of really nice people there and I'll have health benefits and they plan to train me to be a waitress fairly early on so I think this is going to be a good thing and hopefully I'll start taking makeup classes next month.

the end of a long day... my boyfriend does yoga... i polish off half a pint of icecream... we all have our different ways of coping with stress right?

I cannot entirely explain the depth of my loathing of top chef's Spike... it is beyond measure and feels like something boiling... it makes me want to throw things at the tv screen.... it makes me want to develop an irrational hatred of hats.

I'm so tired of LA. I miss Chicago so much. I miss having real friends and not being limited by the fact that I don't drive... just hopping on a train and going wherever I want. Sorry for the whining. I just needed to vent. I'm becoming one of those girls who never goes anywhere without her boyfriend... and while my boyfriend is awesome and all... I miss my independence. I'm looking for a new job and looking into driving lessons so hopefully things will get better soon. I figure I'll give it another month or two and if things still suck I'll move to Colorado early. Why is it so hard to make solid friendships in this city?

I went to Miss Kitty's Parlour friday for the first time for their Mardi Gras party. Ryan and I had such a fun time! There was such a diverse crowd. The people watching was highly entertaining. I love clubs where people of all orientations mingle openly. It was a surprisingly posititve and supportive environment. We'll definately go again. I'm really excited for Valentine's Day. We're going to this really cute little inn in solvang to eat good food and hike and go wine tasting and horseback riding. I started my new creative writing class at Pierce last week and I think it's going to be really good for me. I'm reading a really good book called The Book of Lost Things which I recomend to all my fellow fantasy and fairy tale lovers. Life is pretty good right now.

So... yes...

I went to this amazing Alex Gray event friday. He is one of the coolest people I think I've ever met. Saturday I got my hair did, Bettie Page-ish bangs, choppy layers, blue black with dark blue streaks... I'm really happy with it even though it took all day (not exaggerating). Other than that I am shirking my responsibilities at work for a few minutes to check websites and eat salad.

ps. I am sadly and strangely addicted to webkinz... this is a mild precurser to the fervor I'm sure will consume me if and when I can ever get sims 2 up and running on my computer.
