What up folks? I'm not much for blogging, but what the heck. Here's what's going on lately.
I play keyboards in a new band called Urban Riddumz. We started the band in mid april after the old band Irie Soundz and the Haf-Witz broke up. I'd been busting my balls for a year trying to get onstage with Irie, but our old singer/guitar player was hard to work with and I never got to play more than one show with them. Reality kinda bit him on the ass, however, and he decided to quit the band leaving the Bassist, drummer, and me the keyboard player on our own. This is probably the greatest thing he could have done for me cuz within a week of his quitting we had a new band formed. and by the end of that week we played our first show. after two weeks we played for a tiny crowd on a badass million dollar stage that was set up next to the colorado river during the 2009 Harley Run in Laughlin Nevada. This past week we played 4 shows, the first with The Voodoo Glow Skulls, Knockout, and Savage Cat at a local Kingman Bar. Yes, we got the Voodoo Glow skulls to come to shittly little Kingman AZ. And all the bands rocked that night. Friday we played last minute with Fayuca (out of Phoenix) over in Bullhead city. Saturday we were at The Sportsman in Kingman with Doco (out of Raleigh, NC), and Fayuca. And both bands joined us again Sunday for a "Go Skate day" at our local Skate Park, put on by our good friends and sponsor, Satelite 13 Skate shop. DJ Jeremy Green was also representing playing deep cuts from his amazing record collection, juggling beats and cutting like only Mr Green can. He is a baddass DJ and I'm proud to do shows with him. Not bad for a bunch of kingman kids, huh?
As for the new band, Here's what we got. right now we are a 6 piece, 2 guitars, bass, drums, keys, and a singer. We play a wide variety of music. Our roots are reggae rock, ska, punk, and all that, but we also play a little metal, country, hip-hop, alternative, and whatever else we can work in there, even a little techno. I love the fact that we play a broad dynamic range, heavy, slow, hard, soft, fast, frantic, spaced out grooviness.....whateva. We are definetly not a one trick pony, and while we do cover Bad Religion, The Misfits and The Expendables, 98% of our sets are original songs. Unlike Irie Soundz, which was a bit of a dictatorship with an egocentric guitarist/singer trying to run everything, and insisting on playing only what he wanted, Urban Riddumz is a total democracy. We have no leader, no senior songsmith, rather we rely on everyones co-operation and input to create our music. Which is most likely the reason that we can play such a diverse mixture of styles. Our philosophy is that it is not about any individual, but rather all of us working together and pulling as much as possible from the local talent pool that will take us to the next level (and out of Kingman.) We've been a band for less than 3 months now, and we have 8 shows under our belt. We've got more shows lined up with Sinizen, Inhale, and Shoved; more skate park days on the way, and soon shows in Phoenix and Las Vegas. Check us out on Myspace by looking up UrbanRiddumz, also check out Satelite13skateshop.com, and contact Dave or Danny for any booking information.
