Haven't been here in months - what's new ?

I've been auditioning bassists and going through that hell.
I now have part ownership in a new record company.
And my photos are being published in a national magazine.

Now if I could only make the "new" girl fall in love with me...

THE OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE...

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

STAR NO STAR – RECORD RELEASE PARTY, TUESDAY, AUGUST 24th

Los Angeles, CA. August, 2004: Local favorites, STAR NO STAR will be hosting a record release party at the Knitting Factory on Tuesday, August 24th. The group will be performing tracks from their self-titled debut CD which will be released on the Los Angeles - based label, Misplaced Records.

Formed in the winter of 2002, STAR NO STAR features ex-members of critically acclaimed Los Angeles bands Gwen Mars and Electrolux. Bassist Matt Westfield of Gwen Mars joined with former Electrolux members, Bobby Diaz (vocals) and K Bombay (Guitar) in hopes of creating music that was dreamy, dark, noisy and, most importantly, music that rocks. Joined by drummer Nick Lane, STAR NO STAR has achieved what the band set out to do.

With the release of their debut CD, the band recalls the sounds of such groups as Jesus and the Mary Chain, Guided by Voices and The Pixies. It’s guitar- based dream pop with emotional vocals and catchy melodies – sonic lullabies for the “damned.” The group has already begun to garner positive reviews:

"Polished and passionate, the songs that are destined for the quartet's debut pulse with 80's influences such as the Cult and the Cure".

Kevin Bronson – THE LOS ANGELES TIMES

STAR NO STAR is joined by special guest’s Lowfive, Once Upon America and Thinking Aloud. Admission is free for 21 & over and $3 for those 21 & under. For further information please call the Knitting Factory at 323 463-0204.

So last night was the 4th time I've dreamt of you in recent weeks. It's nice of you to stop by - I enjoy our time together. Last night's dream was especially odd - we were lost in a supermarket and what I remember most was you holding my hand. That seems to be the main theme - you comforting me. It's nice.

I don't know why I've been dreaming of you. I haven't really been thinking of anyone in particular lately as I still have a bad taste in my mouth from my last attempt at dating. When will I learn ?

Anyway, I hope to see you soon. It's always good to see a familiar face - even in my subconscious.

xoxo

So let's see...

The girl turned out to be a HUGE disappointment - Should have seen that coming.

Never ever "date" the party girl.

It amazes me how women will find new ways to disappoint and fuck you up.

Haven't been on in a while - What have I missed ?

I'm almost done with the record. It's scheduled for a April release. Other than that, not much. Staying away from the usual haunts and not drinking as much. I'm so fucking boring.

This was from Today's LA TIMES Calendar section (Buzz Bands)

Older and Wiser
K and his bandmates in Star No Star aren’t kids anymore, as the demos the early-thirtysomethings have been sprinkling around the Southland indicate. Polished and passionate, the songs that are destined for the quartet’s debut pulse with 80’s influences such as the Cult and the Cure.

“What we recorded is probably a good cross section of where we are stylistically – dark yet poppy has been our MO. We’re not going out of our way to be retro, we just love playing this type of music. We’ve been in other bands and have slugged it out on the club scene. We’re a bit older now this time, and at that point you have to ask yourself what you really want to do.”

Star No Star performs at the Knitting Factory on Dec. 15th and Spaceland on Dec. 29th.

I haven't been able to access SG from home due to IE 5. Checking in from work is quite difficult.

So what the hell's been goin' on ? For me, I had a birthday last week. Finished the album and have played a few shows.
Everything is good.

How's everyone else been ?
