Earl Scruggs died yesterday at age 88. For those of us who love country/bluegrass (AKA) hillbilly music, Earl was a god. By himself he took country music instrumental accompaniment to a level that we still revere and one on whose groundbreaking efforts rests so much of modern county music. No one , perhaps with the exception of Chopin and the unaccompanied piano, is more associated with a style of playing for a particular instrument than Scruggs: not Mozart, not Paganini, not Vivaldi, just Scruggs.
RIP Earl. Your name will live forever.
