I quit my job at the start of August, and started working for my previous job again. They have a new bigger shop, laided out differently to get things done more efficiently. According to the office even after 6 weeks it's noticeable more efficient.
The old job was bothering me more and more, the owner/mis-manager had an office in a different building for a while, but they got thrown out of that one so he was back in the shop, causing trouble. I couldn't see things getting better workwise there for a long time.
I kept in touch with one of my co-workers, forwarded a cool food video to him a few weeks ago. I texted asking about the shop last week.
It just reminded me of the 'return scene' in Quest for Fire when the cave men come back to the rest of their tribe having found fire, and how to make it, seen wolly mamoths, spear throwers, non-doggie style sex, fought off other tribes. They find the rest of their tribe on the same little island in the swamp huddled into the tiny trees, where they left them how ever long ago.
Three and a half weeks after I left: my replacement hasn't started, the bandsaw doesn't have a blade (the owner took it off to put a wood blade on for one of his friends to use, then took the wood blade off without replacing it with anything). The metal cutting chop saw doesn't have a working blade, the good surface grinder doesn't have a grinding wheel on it. The milling machine is still dismantled (it's needed maintance for the entire 2.5 years I had used it and the owner desided to have it taken apart before finding the parts it would need). The shop was shut down for at least two days because there was no one left to work in it, one guy was in New York on vacation and the other guy who can do things was in Vancouver for a rather long week end. Shop of two.
