This year is about travel, at least for the first half of the year.

The Grand Canyon

We went to the Grand Canyon again a couple weeks ago.

There wasn't as much snow as we were hoping for, but there was some, and there was a whole herd of elk. Shal took some video of it.

The next morning when we left, we stopped by Bearizona, a sort of zoo/wild animal park. In one part of the park, there was a pack of wolves that were really curious about our car (we're pretty sure they smelled our dogs).

They also had a really awesome birds of prey show, with hawks and owls and a falcon. They had one of the hawks fly very close to the audience, and on one pass, he flew between me and Shal and his wing clipped my head. This is right before that happened:

Mexico

We'll be heading down to Mexico in a couple of months to see GarageDelFuego and his girl get married. That will be awesome.

This Summer

Nothing's final, yet, but the tentative plan is to take a week-long road trip during the first week of July, roughly following this route:

The highlights of that route:
  • the 395 along the eastern Sierra Nevada mountains

  • Camping on the western shore of Lake Tahoe

  • Mount Lassen and Lassen Volcanic National Park

  • Visiting my Mom

  • the Going-to-the-Sun road in Glacier National Park

  • the Beartooth highway

  • Yellowstone National Park

  • Grand Teton National Park

  • Bryce Canyon National Park

  • about a dozen national forests

  • It should be pretty amazing.

I would say this blog post is modestly epic, but the modest part would be a lie.

The wife's been talking about Mexico as well, so we'll see what happens. Don't worry though, we're not going to Juarez or somewhere- we're going to stay in one of those resorts for blanca gringos and have drinks served to us all day. tongue

Fantastic. Montana has become what feels like a second home to me, I hope you two love it.

We have our usual slate of wedding travels this year. Chicago at least twice!

Yeah, you're going to see a lot more of I than i have, for sure. My sister-in-law (you might remember her) lives in Bozeman, so if you want a local contact, let me know.

    That sounds fantastic.

My main travel plans are wedding-related (bitches keep gettin' married, yo! What's up with that?) and family-related, but I'm hoping to see the Twin Cities more this year so that all my time there isn't strictly family-related, and I'd really like to head back east-coast-ward. New York or Boston. Were I going to go crazy, I'd include a trip to the Boundary Waters, but I think that's unlikely yet this year. Some year soon, though.

Hey--comment away. I know the feeling, and the place in the back of the head where it tends to hang out. I'm all inarticulate at the moment, but yeah. It's hard to know how to do, or when, but sometimes taking a critical look at where and in whom you focus your time/energy/trust/care/etc. is just a worthwhile thing to do.

And I am ABSOLUTELY the same about the photos. I really should just suck it up and use some app or something, but the thought of it ending up in some way I'd deem imprecise is just so irritating to me that I kind of can't bear it. Not that I lean Type A or anything. wink

Happy belated Valentine's to you and your lovely lady as well! smile

If you decide to pass through Colorado on your trip, you and your woman are definitely welcome to stay at my place and I can show you around.

The photos you posted are beautiful. The Grand Canyon and wolf photos are my favorite. I'm really glad to see you updating your page.
