I'm watching Into the Universe with Stephen Hawking and it's just gotten to the point in episode 3 (about 25 minutes in) where he talks about the life cycle of a star - how the each star begins as a mass of hydrogen, that starts to form helium by fusion, and then helium fuses into carbon and so on... until the star has made iron. At iron, the engine hits a snag - it gets no more energy out than went in, and so the star begins to stall out, and die.

I am reminded of the variegated faerie stories, in which Cold Iron is the undoing of The Fair Folk. It would seem that what Shakespeare had determined Titania and Oberon cannot abide, Hawking's compatriots have determined to be the undoing of stars.

Does seem like an odd coincidence...I do love Astronomy! Shakespeare isn't bad either smile You should check out the Shakespeare Festival in Ashland!

eh, some are warming up to it more than others...I might result to contacting people directly in the future, but at least some people are chiming in more. smile And yes, it is an award winning, known around the world, Shakespeare Festival...I also happen to be friends with the Production Music Coordinator and Jamila's boyfriend works on the sets. smile OSF

It does seem kinda of mystical and magical. I always kind of laugh at myself loving to immerse myself into fantasy worlds but the real world is just as fascinating and wondrous. Faerie starts <3

I know we are a bit bizarre for it but I always like a strong jawline...angular, strong features in general.

I don't know if it's that series or another, but one thing that really struck me was how rapidly the star dies after iron is fused. It really is stellar poison.
