People keep giving me these fantastic recommendations for places to go in cities after I'm already planning the exit to the next city.

So here's the next couple stops from here:

Nice
Monaco
Barcelona

Probably winging further down the Spanish coast from there plotting a route to Marrakech. Or I may turn north and head for Scandinavia by way of BeNeLux (Amsterdam, Luxembourg City) and save Morocco for later.

I don't want to discourage you, but Nice is lame sauce. Everyone there was very rude to us (even though we had a French-speaker with us), and the beautiful views did not make up for it. On the other hand, I'm not sure any other coastal French cities would be better and really, the views were very beautiful. Make sure to check out some Gaudi stuff in Barcelona!

I'd vote for the Benelux & Scandanavia plan. Solstice has just passed, the days are long and there really isn't a better time to go to Stockholm (or Oslo for that matter). In the BeNeLux - I would highly recommend Brugge, land of beer, chocolate & lace. I realize that you'll miss out on 1/3 of that, but one night in the city with the most per capita breweries in the world cannot be all bad, can it? As for Amsterdam, if the coffee houses are not your thing, I would highly recommend the Rijksmuseum. Photographs simply do not do Rembrandt's work justice (and the pieces are huge).

In Barcelona - go to the Gaudi Museum which is in Casa Milla. The line won't be as long as the line for Sangrada Familia (which is still worth a visit) and there is a really good exhibit on the way he worked out his structures. Also, there is a great view of the city from the roof garden at Casa Milla.

I've never been to Nice or Monaco, and I know I've mentioned this: but a short detour to Nimes would also be on my list. It's a neat, friendly small town with very well preserved Roman ruins (not that far from the Pont du Gard) and a good Norman Foster building that takes it's proportions from a tiny temple across the square in the center of town.

Have fun.

My recommendation is to fly to Morocco from Barcelona, there really isn't much worth seeing in Spain past Barcelona. Trust me, I spent more time in Spain than any country except Italy. At best you might go to Granada and see the Alhambra and other city sights, it's the only place besides Barcelona that didn't disappoint.

Scandinavia is probably the only place in Europe worth going to in the summer, the weather is fantastic (not unbearably hot) and the prices are cheaper, so I would head that way in late summer when the rest of Europe is intolerable.

Do not, I repeat DO NOT pay money to see the Sagrada Familia. I consider it to this day the worst €11 I've spent. There is literallly nothing to see inside except construction equipment, it is completely empty and you just walk along a path and you're out again in two minutes. Everything worth seeing is on the outside, and free. I felt so ripped off that I didn't spend any more money on anything Gaudi (I did visit Parc Guell because it was free).

There are a lot of great modern art museums along the French Riviera. Villefranche will be less crowded and more down to earth than the ritzier and touristier Riviera towns, so it's my pick for what pebbly beach to relax on. All of the cities can be easily reached by train, the whole area is not more than an hour or two train ride along the coast from Ventimiglia (the French/Italian border) to Cannes.

There is nothing to do in Monaco that you can't do in Beverly Hills, so don't plan on spending more than an hour or two there. You can't enter the casino without proper attire and a ridiculous cover charge.

Nimes is still lame, Arles is still awesome. Ask Van Gogh.

I loved Barcelona the times i've been. But you can kinda do the city in 2 days at most. Unless your planning on checking out the night scene.

Since I am not Swedish myself, I don't have home town in here and cos of this i can give my recommendation as a "tourist". smile
Stockholm is of course always amazing, it is so different from any other Nordic cities. It just have it's own magic in it and no matter what would be your purpose to travel, i can guarantee that u won't be disappointed.

Other charming city is Malmö. It is 3rd biggest city here in Sweden (I am living in the second biggest, Gothenburg). Malmö also has it's uniqueness; it is so incredibly charming city. And what makes visiting this city even better; Copenhagen is next to it. You just cross the bridge which has been build between Malmö and Copenhagen, by bus and you can continue your holidays in Copenhagen. smile
