been chillin in LA for a while now. since my last gallery shows around july 10th, i havent painted a single thing, and its been awesome
though it's about time i started up again, got a show at The Alternative Cafe on September 10th, and they want like 6-8 pieces from me... i'll probably deliver 4 or 5 unless i get really into it and bust out extras. then the Rogue Buddha gallery in minneapolis wants to give me a show in october, but they havent returned my emails in like 2 weeks.... hmm. we'll see about that. i can't stand working with flakes.
i'm really excited about my photographic side-career though right now! my old setup was a canon 40D, canon 50mm 1.8, and a tamron 28-75. all decent advanced amateur gear, but it was time for a change, especially after i rented a Canon 7D for a shoot and feel deeply in love with it haha
sold my 40d and both lenses on craigslist for a good price, and put the money right towards a brand new canon 7D, 50mm f1.4 usm, and a slightly used canon 24-105 f/4.0 IS USM. ohhhhhhh man i am so thrilled. huge photographic boner right now. the 7d and the 24-105 are an incredible combo.
did 3 photo shoots last weekend, shooting a total of about 2500 frames, of 3 models. also trying out lightroom, at the recommendation of a really amazing professional photographer from whom i rented out a photo studio for the night. he does amazing work, maxim/FHM style mostly. you can google him, Nicolaas de Bruin.
probably gonna hit up the art supply store and drop 200 bucks on supplies for the next show today
although the sun is coming out here in HB and that always seems to lure me to my bike or the beach lately.

still hangin out in LA, getting work done and doin art. have a painting hanging in the berlin gallery right now in a group show, and shipping off two new paintings to a show in denmark soon. should be a rockin show!
yesterday I attended a painting workshop at billy shire's gallery in culver city, taught by the amazing Mike Hussar. fantastic workshop, going again tonight for round 2!
printing and releasing some new giclee prints soon, i just opened up a print shop site with bigcartel, check it out! http://rhinobarkingsparrow.bigcartel.com
its pretty spartan right now but i'll flesh it out soon with more prints and maybe even t-shirts or alla-prima paintings and stuff.
got a few shows lined up finally, distinction gallery in july, gallery 1988's crazy4cult show and a twilight zone themed show.. a few others.. shaping up to be a decent year, though i still need a solo show this year at one point.... time to cold-send a few portfolios. ugh.

i am crazy busy. i have 3 gallery shows coming up, 1 in SF, 2 in LA. sooooooooooo swamped.
the show in LA at C.A.V.E. gallery should be really cool.. im the featured artist and will probably send 10-14 pieces down. on the same night, may 1st, ill have 2 pieces at gallery 1988 sf, and a week later, a piece at the congregation gallery in hollywood.

sup guys!? been a weird week for me.. crazyness and lots of work.
so the mike giant show at white walls last night was sick, but i liked the 3 man show at shooting gallery even better. kris kuksi's work is fucking SICK. and travis louie's new paintings are amazing. mercedes helnwein's stuff was alright, kuksi overshadowed everyone though. friday's opening at 1988 was fun, i was so close to buying a piece. maybe if it hasnt sold ill buy it next week.
finished two new pieces, one for an art collector, which i think turned out pretty awesome.

so the paper pushers show came down from gallery 1988, it was a great show for me. sold five out of eight paintings! and from two of the buyers, got new commissions.
my print edition of giclees is almost sold out, thanks to a lot of amazing net exposure over the last few weeks, most recently, at notcot.org, which has landed me about 12,000 hits on my website so far over the last 3 days
im painting like crazy to finish a piece for a show i'll be in on thursday night, at 111 minna, "destroy all monsters". its gonna be a rad show!
and im interning with an awesome artist, helping him do some crazy installation art down at the temple bar. fun fun fun.

REMIX at 625 Sutter Gallery in San Francisco.
so those will be awesome. the paper pushers show is all works on paper from a lot of artists. its gonna be HUGE. and the remix show is a place for me to show a new body of work that i am developing, a series of digitally inspired photorealist paintings.

its a fun new direction for me. this isnt to say i've abandoned my previous series, but i'm exploring a new path for the moment :]
