Well I made it through the week. Today was the best day of the week. We had most of our business in the first hour. So I got to play for a little while.


I had been trying to do this cake all week. It is a sample for a party we are catering in late august. I will do 5 in all and they will all be decorated different.

After this week I thing I have earned my two days off. Just hope I can get some me time. I sure need it.

Well just finished another day in HELL. The restaurant is so crazy right now. We lost our dishwasher for 5 weeks, she fell and broke her arm last week. And our hostess just left on maternity leave for a while. There is just two of us left in the kitchen plus we have a student that helps us on the weekend but he is slow and breaks a lot of dishes, we stear him in the right direction but it goes in one ear and out the other. It is so frustrating. My boss comes in and tells me to help the other chef because he is behind in his prep, and I am further behind then him. Two people in the kitchen is just not enough.

In other news, my dad came home from the hospital yesterday and is glad to be home. He will be slow for a while and can't lift more than 5 pounds. So I guess I have my work cut out for me for a while. Which is ok with me. You only get two parents so I will cherish the time I have with them.

Well I have one day left this week and I am already tired beyond belief. But I must persevere and keep going. At least I have two days off after tomorrow to hopefully I can get some rest.

Man this was the longest day. Worked 11 hours and spent 2 1/2 hours at the hospital.
Lets see I started work at 7:45, finished the cakes for the party, made bread for the day, piped butter for the dining room, made muffin batter, baked muffins and tea bread for the day, made ranch and raspberry vin, then started getting things ready for the party service (all before 11am). We plated the salads and got them out, then started on the entree's. They had a choice of Beef tender, apricot chicken, and grilled salmon, with veggies and roasted potatoes. Ten I had to start cutting up the cakes for dessert, 41 servings in all. Then we had to deal with a full lunch service, and it was not a slow day today. Then I got to play dishwasher for a couple of hours. After lunch had to start prep for tomorrow. Had to roll quiche shells, make crepe batter and pipe more butter. Then had to start packaging the extras for the day, then start cleaning up. When I left at 7pm they still had 30+ minutes of dishies left.
After leaving work I went to pick up dinner for my mom, and spent the rest of the evening with her and my dad at the hospital. I finally made it home after 10pm. I checked my e-mails and now I am here journaling my day. At least I am getting OT this week (need as much as I can get right now). Well hope everyone has a great day.

I am writing this even though I know no one reads this but I think it is helping me get through the days.

Well I survived the day. It was crazy at work. Sence we are closed mondays and tuesdays we start from scratch on wednesday's and with only 2 of us in the kitchen theres a lot to be done. We were almost through lunch before I was caught up. Then I had to start work on the cakes for a party tomorrow. I decorated 4 1/2 cakes before I ran out of icing. But these are the most popular cakes we have. It is a white chocolate cake with a white chocolate cream cheese icing and lemon curd filling. Talk about a sweet tart of a cake. I started this morning at 8:30am and left work at almost 7:00pm and have to be back at 7:30 am tomorrow. After work I went and brought mom some dinner at the hospital while she sits with dad. Hopefully he will be leaving the hospital on friday, its still up in the air. Hope everybody is well.

Well let's see,
Every thing went fine with my dad's surgery this morning, my brother came into town for the surgery, which was nice, He is not around too often, Dad is resting in the hospital and will be home on friday.
Still need to mow the lawn but I have to wait until it cools down a little as it is around 95 right now.
Got the cake decorated and delivered this afternoon they loved the way it was decorated, hope they want more cakes in the future.

Well I made it through the week. Now I have 2 days off from work. But my days are full. Have to pick up my dad at the dr's office go to the storage room with mom, do some shopping for a baby shower cake I have to decorate on tuesday. And on tuesday my dad is havig brain surgery. Then I have to decorate the cake and deliver it. And then the week starts at work. I have so much to do this week. I have two new desserts to make, make hand made truffle (yum), decprate 5 cakes for a party on thursday, and do all the other stuff I have to do every week. My work is never done. Well thats all for now.

Well here it is sat. morning and I am off to work. I have a ton of things to do when I get there. I have 3 salad dressings to make, mix up muffin and tea bread batter, make scones, prep for 3 parties, prepare desserts for the day all before 11am. then we have to get through lunch and a busy afternoon tea. Plus I have to start prep for next week. The life of a pastry cook is never done. Well I need to jet so I can get all this done.

I have never done anything like this before so I will give this a try.

Well it was a crappy day at work, I did not want to be there at all today and was glad when I was able to step out of the door. It was just one of those days when all you want is to be alone for a while. I guess it would help if I had someone special in my life.

Added some pictures today so that all can see what I do for a living. The pay sucks and I don't have benifits but I love what I do.
