yay, happy halloween! i love this holiday, so much fun!
i bought a pumpkin yesterday! usually i'll carve one earlier than the day of, but with everything going on right now, it totally slipped my mind until i walked past them at the grocery store. i probably would have skipped it this year, but hubby comes back on tuesday, and he loves my roasted pumpkin seeds <3 i wonder how i should decorate it...
i'm so excited about tonight! my friends and i are going to the nightmare on normal street block party, and i can't wait! my costume is all ready to go and looks great, but i'm even more excited about seeing everyone else's. i hear they get pretty elaborate
also, this year i've decided to personally celebrate dia de los muertos
that's one of the things i like about not belonging to a religion, i can celebrate any holiday that interests or means something to me
i already have a shrine dedicated to inspiring women, the virgin mary and other female saints, beauty (the shrine is made from my bedroom vanity, after all), etc, but will remove most of the decorations so i can devote it to my grandmother and other family members and friends who have passed. i got some decorations in old town, but i might head back this weekend because i don't have any sugar skulls. ooh, and fresh flowers. i visited my grandmother's grave during my last trip, but didn't leave anything, since she didn't celebrate it. instead i just smoked a cigarette (one of the things we always did together in defiance of the rest of the family
), reminisced silently, and tidied up her grave. i think i'll also bring out the family cookbook and make some goodies, my great-grandmothers were awesome bakers. also, that way hubby will have lots of delicious treats to come home to
well i should get going, got lots to do before tonight! but just for fun, some pics before i go!
this is a terrible picture, but it's the only halloween pic i have on the computer so back off!
this was in 2005, and even though you can't tell that we are dressed up as ash (evil dead) and a french whore, you CAN tell how ridiculously hammered we were.

last year in old town for dia de los muertos. only three more days until we can hold each other once more! <3

quick! someone call the wah-mbulance!
so i woke up this morning to discover my car was gone! i called the police to report it stolen, but after running the plates they said it got repossessed. which is odd, considering the payments have been direct-deposited to the bank every month for the last two years.
so i called the dealership that financed us, and couldn't get a straight answer to save my soul. the guy couldn't or wouldn't tell me anything about the last payment they received, anything about their repossession policies, or whether or not he could even find our paperwork. he also mentioned a problem with the account our money is going into, but wouldn't tell me what. after our conversation, i made a call to legal assistance, just in case.
i couldn't get a ride today, but tomorrow i'll head over there with what paperwork i have. i get the "blunder of the year" award for, that's right folks, leaving our vehicle records and power of attorney in the trunk of the car! i took them with me to tx, and hid them so well i forgot they were still in there. i hope i don't need them, that would be pretty embarassing.
the whole thing has been pretty frustrating, and i'm ending today with no car, no food, no pot, and no money until this weekend. boo!

i started painting my elephant! i got so excited after writing about it in my blog, i went out that day and bought brushes and paint! i've decided on almost all of the colors and have the first coat on one side finished. so far i'm really happy with the way it looks
i'll post some pics once it's a little farther along!
oh yeah, my old town purchases! i almost forgot! well i have to take the dogs for a walk, so we'll have to save them for another time
have a great week! <3
ok, now that all the serious stuff is out of the way, how bout some pics from the trip?
my mom's 18 yr old cat stopped grooming himself, so after a shed cycle he was pretty much covered in matted hair. so we took him to the vet to get him a fancy new haircut! his new nickname is puss in boots

hanging out with my best guy friend chad and his girl carrie at the steel penny pub, my bar of choice back home.

marion! jess and ben's new american bulldog puppy. playing with her made me miss having a puppy again.

and lucy!

drinking with theresa on 6th street

cheers!

a corner lot nursery in austin. the yard was filled with pumpkins and pink flamingos, so i couldn't pass up the photo op.

cuddling with the pups at mama's

sleepy eppie

my little monster!

i can't believe i actually found a slush puppie! the last time i had one was in the late 80's

i stayed with my granddad while in san angelo, and he had me go through my grandmother's closets to take anything i wanted. there wasn't much left, but what was there is gold! the pic is just a selection, and includes a dress my mother wore in rome in 1975. i brought back dresses, blouses, gowns, slips, hats, luggage (i also have the set she got for high school graduation waiting for me), a fur collar, and her swimsuit from the 40's! i also found all of her 1950's patterns! i guess it's time to learn how to sew

i also found this, it looks like a lighter but is actually a perfume spray you put in your purse. she had bought it for me, but died before she could give it to me. it's nice to finally have the last thing she ever bought for me.

i was also finally able to bring back this bad boy! she had two, and was planning on making them into a coffee table, but got too sick to finish them. when we moved to california, i gave one to jess, and kept the one she had started with my granddad. finally i had enough room in the trunk to bring him back, and i really look forward to finishing him up!

i was also given my mother's and grandmother's wedding outfits and a bridesmaid's dress my great-grandmother wore in the 20's, but i didn't want to risk bringing them all the way out to california, so they are packed away until i return. damn i should have taken a picture of them, they are absolutely beautiful <3
ok i guess that's about it. yall have a great week!
ps. hubby comes back in two weeks! woooooohooooooo!!!!!
