This is just a follow-up to a blog I wrote earlier in the week.
For the many people who didn't read it, a quick recap. I was invited to a Boxing night by a friend at work to see his 16yr old son fight. I wanted to go but hate social situations, so I was debating whether to go or not.
Anyways, at the last minute, I went along and had a really good time. There were a few of my workmates there, so it wasn't nearly as awkward as I feared it would be. My friend's son lost his fight, so that was a shame but I find it really heartening to see young lads putting their all into something, be it,sport, art, music etc. Young people usually get a pretty bad rap from society so it was great to see such dedication from so many youngsters.
If only the spectators had behaved themselves in the same way. All night there were idiots, mostly drunk, screaming abuse and threatening each other. This all came to a head when a fight flared up in the room and quickly spilled out onto the street outside the venue. While this was happening, there were 2 young lads in the ring, waiting to fight. They were kept waiting, while most of the other spectators rushed outside to see the 2 dickheads brawling. I later found out that the 2 fighting were Fathers of 2 of the boxers from earlier in the night. What a fine example to set!
I know that we don't live in a perfect world but I am sick of the idiotic minority in this country ruining things for the rest of us. These kind of people are the exact reason why I hate going out in the first place. I personally, don't drink and I have no problem with people that do. But I do have a problem with people who drink too much and create an uncomfortably aggressive atmosphere for those of us who either don't drink or just want to have a couple of quiet ones.
Anyways, rant over. I had a good time. I probably wouldn't go again because of the negatives but I'm glad I went. The young lad we went to see seemed happy that I went to watch him, so that's good enough for me.
