started off my "holiday weekend" by watching The Hangover Part II (again)...
"only" 108hrs left of the weekend to go *sighs*. NOW what should I do?!
( was originally scheduled to work Friday, but they decided to give it to us off "last minute" )
I know, most people are excited and/or happy and/or {place emotion here} for the holidays, but I haven't been one to celebrate holidays in a long, long time. I can't actually remember the last time I actually did, but it was at least a decade ago - likely longer.
even when I was married, I spent holidays alone while the then-wife would visit her family with the kids(s) - I wasn't welcome around her relatives, to say I was disliked is to downplay it.
my relatives are a good 8hr+ drive away and having no vehicle, not likely to happen (I haven't been there in at least 3yrs now, actually).
of course, years ago it never really mattered as I tended to be employed in the types of jobs where there was no such thing as a holiday off. I admit, I'm not used to having holidays off and where I've been working now for 5yrs+ we get them off paid.
I know, I probably should be excited/happy/{emotion} but to me it's merely 4days + several hours of figuring out what I could possible do in the apartment without going absolutely apeshit and being brought in to work on Monday with a police escort.
in the past I have had some interesting holidays, I admit.
one particular Thanksgiving in Fargone/Nomoorhead I was invited to an ex-g/f's grandparents home - her grandparents were gone but she, her sister, and her mother were there... within maybe an hour her mother and her were fighting, her sister stoned and not giving a shit, and I just sat on the couch and watched chairs, the table, and other furniture tossed around as the house became a miniature warzone. when the cops arrived, they were suddenly "buddy-buddy" and then ordered from the pizza joint since the food was a total loss.
a Thanksgiving earlier than that up in WarRoseau a sorta-friend had nothing to do either so we went across the border and hit a few of the Canadian strip joints a couple miles north... was sorta-enjoyable at first - until I got to see him drunk for the first time and what an obnoxious "wanna-fight-everybody" person he became. we got stopped at the border on the way back because he'd shoved his knife into the console and couldn't get it out (probably didn't help about a mile back he'd gotten out to cut down a small tree with it)... had to call one of Roseau PD I knew, since all my roommates were at their respective families, to get him to pick us up and the rest of the weekend was a drunken blur, withOUT the sorta-friend, until I could get my car picked up. never drank with him again.
...and that's about it, really.
even when I was still in HS I was working (and paying rent to live at home anyways) and my parents and sister(s) would go to relatives to celebrate so I'd have their house to myself.
ANYways...
enough of that b.s. - if you celebrate, enjoy! if you don't, well, try not to get so bored you do something too nuts - I know I won't
until my usual Friday posting, farethee well for now!
