Only in America would there be a massacre in a movie theater followed by a national discussion not about assault weapons and extended magazines, but about violent movies and whether or not people should be allowed to wear costumes when they watch them.

Or my all time favorite argument renewal: "Don't ban assault weapons! Assault weapons don't kill people, people kill people!" Yeah but that assault weapon makes it a whole lot FUCKING EASIER don't you think?

I'm wondering how people expect the theater to stop people from wearing costumes. If a wacko did want to do a massacre and wore a costume, breaking the prohibition, doesn't that just mean that the first death would be the usher trying to stop the wacko?

as to your main point, yeah. Hooray for the USA. [shakes head]

Maybe it's time to make it harder to get bullets.

Its so sad. People will spend hours and hours pointing the finger on whoever is convenient or whatever issue is going to help get them votes. The focus should be on the fucktard who did this. The world has become a violent place and shit like this is going to happen more and more. I was I had an answer it idea on how to prevent this im tje future.. but I think the fucktard should be made an example of... Execution by firing squad on national TV. Maybe just maybe the other fucktards might get the idea tjat this is not acceptable and will not be tolerated

My heart goes out to al that have bbeen affected by this tragedy

ink_addicted said it, and I'd point to Chris Rock's bit: "if we don't have gun control, perhaps we need bullet control. We should make each bullet cost five thousand dollars. Then someone gets pissed off at someone else and whips out his gun and says 'man, I'd like to kill you, if only I had five thousand dollars'"
(paraphrased because I don't remember the exact lead-in)

amending the gun laws or placing a ban on violent movies or the wearing of costumes to a theatre will not change the fact that certain people in society are one sandwich short of a picnic!
Psychopaths will find a way to cause whatever mayhem and destruction they have in mind, maybe there should also be a ban on modile phones and bleach.....frown

its fucking rediculous how the media handles situations like this! instead of putting the blame on the actual cause of the problem they end up blaming a movie!!!! WHAT THE FUCK!!!

Mr. Wheaton,

First, please allow me to say I am a HUGE fan, I find you to be an intelligent, funny, witty, well spoken guy with a well thought out viewpoint.

Having said that, please do not take offense at my response, as I am none of those things!

Yes, there was a horrible situation in Colorado, one that should never have happened. My heart goes out to the families of the victims, and I wish there were a sure fire way to solve this problem.

I also fervently believe that we, as a society, need a frank, honest debate about Gun Control laws and what they mean to a Free Society.

Criminals, by their very nature, do not care about Laws. Gun Control laws included. Passing MORE gun control laws is simply not going to work, based on that fact alone.

Disarming the normal, law abiding citizen does NOT make anyone MORE safe. In fact, evidence proves that it makes people LESS safe. Had there been an armed, trained willing citizen in that theater, it could (and probably WOULD) have ended very differently. However, when you actively discourage people from bring weapons (even legally carried weapons) into a public place, you have given the Criminals a free reign over that area. They now KNOW that they can act with impunity as there will be no law abiding citizen to stop them. People will have to wait for the Police to be called and respond, which even in the best of scenarios, will take several minutes. several minutes, which to the victims can seem like eons, and even cost them lives.

A couple articles in support of my viewpoint.

http://www.nydailynews.com/opinion/concealed-weapons-save-lives-article-1.1121161
by the author of "More Guns, Less Crime"

http://larrycorreia.wordpress.com/2012/07/24/fisking-a-gun-control-editorial/ another article (one simply needs to overlook the crass language...)

I know I hold a minority viewpoint, because I believe that ANYONE who wants one (within reason, people with psychological issues or criminal backgrounds excluded, for example) should be granted a Concealed Carry permit, after taking an educational course, and passing a reasonably difficult Skills test. (Hey, we do the same thing with Cars, why not with Guns.) Beyond that, I believe we are entitled to own guns, not just for hunting, but for personale protection from bad people, up to and including our own government, should it come to that.

"A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed."

I would LOVE to hear solid facts and statistics that prove that taking away guns makes people more safe, I have been looking for those facts, and have not once found them. I have found evidence to the contrary.

There should have been cops at that theater. At some movie theaters here in Chicago you have ARMED security guards. Colorado is just a fucked up state with fucked up laws.

I am going to sound like a bitch..... but the truth is that yes, we all want to be safe, but no matter WHAT we do, if someone really wants to kill or assault another human, they will find a way. Right now, some poor, sick, human is figuring out a way to kill someone with a frozen turkey leg. Are we going to ban the sell of turkey legs? Why blame movies, video games, books, and art instead of realizing that very few healthy people do things like this?? Why don't we focus on the people that create killers by treating their kids like trash?? We create these people. We may be quick to send a woman to her death for killing her husband..... that's because somehow we forget that she called the cops over 50 times for abuse, and the cops did nothing because there were no bruises (that would be me, but I got help before someone died).
There are exceptions, but IMHO there are many factors that contribute to the act of violence before a person even decides to buy a weapon. And if someone plays Mortal Kombat or MW3 and decides the weather is right for killing....then there is something wrong with his mind/brain, NOT the video game. I am as saddened by these tragedies as the next person; but I am tired of people using these tragedies to stand on a soap box and launch propaganda about the violent side effects of our favorite form of entertain.

Wow. Sorry. I always ramble on other people's blogs.

I was "simply" trying to state that I agree.

I agree.
