but the best part is a set of 40mm Dellorto carburetors for a type I VW motor. manifolds & linkage, but no air filters for a hundred bucks. They go for $500-$700 a pair used & 40mm are the perfect size for the baja's 1910 motor. Yippie! They're very similar to weber IDFs, but supposedly a little smoother running overall. They look like this:

I'll get better gas mileage, smoother part throttle running and more power than the single weber 44 that's on there now. A single carb means super long intake runners where the fuel falls out of suspension. Long runners are good for low end torque but that's it.

one mile standing start top speed shootout
it's at the Nellis air force base of all places. Killer! I haven't taken my R1 to the track, so there's some safety wiring & stuff to do to meet their tech inspection. I haven't even read what the price is yet, but I'm pretty broke. we'll see if I can manage to make it. Maybe just to spectate if nothing else.
There's only about a hundred and fifty more videos, check 'em out.
actually there are 105 more I just checked.
apparently tonight is another midnight mayhem at the drag strip. Unusual to have 2 Fridays in a row. Last time that happened the turnout was very small which means a lot of runs. I should go, but I'm still undecided. I haven't changed anything with the mustang yet, but I can try being a little gentler off the line to keep more traction this time. Only got 2 runs it's first time out, one I left it in D out of curiosity which cost me almost a second over shifting manually. So basically one run so far. I'll report tomorrow if I do go.
Another nice long ride after work yesterday. It was overcast and raining a bit which brought out a very big desert tortoise! he was inches from the trail, but I saw him before I got there. I got off the bike and walked it around, he never even went inside his shell! I kept my distance because I didn't want to stress him out:
The other major threat facing desert tortoises is the incidence and spread of upper respiratory tract disease (URTD). Over the last ten years, URTD has spread into wild populations of desert tortoises with devastating effects. Although the mortality rate of URTD is not as high as researchers once feared it would be, it is, and will continue to be, a significant cause of desert tortoise mortality... ...Any tortoise that is subject to stress can develop or carry URTD
I think they mean environmental sorts of stresses, but the idea of something that moves .025mph getting stressed out is sort of endearing, so I give 'em a break. Too bad I left my cell phone in the truck or I'd have taken a pic to post up.
5 hours and the tooth hasn't started singing yet, maybe it'll be ok until Monday. Dragstrip tonight! Nothing new with the mustang to address it's traction issues so I'm taking the R1. yippie!
since this entry lacks anything entertaining here's Graham Reynolds aka The Golden Arm Trio doing a Star Wars Medley, i think I posted it a couple years ago, but I gots nuttin else right now.
got an 11.115 @ 135 out of the R1, that's a little better than the 11.4 from the zrx. got showed up once by a gal on another stock length liter bike (but it was my worst run at 11.56 (tire spun and the front lifted) and once by a young kid on a stretched 750. Best 60' time was 2.25 which is bad, nearly as bad as the mustang. I don't care to do burnouts to aid traction, I favor saving the tire. front usually comes up first anyhow, so why bother. Fun regardless, but I doubt I'll take the R1 much anymore. I'd rather take a bike that's slower but surprisingly quick than one that's expected to be super fast. I'm wondering what kind of time I could get from the H2 with a stretched swing arm and geared specifically for the 1/4. if I could do 11's that'd be tits. I'll look into it. It would save me money not trying to make the thing handle.
