I am not sure exactly what it is, but right now I have no passion or motivation to drive me to work on my French.

I am enrolled in a Distance Education School to upgrade my highschool French 10,11, and 12 because an approved language 11 and an approved academic 12 course are required for the Linguistics program I am interested in for next year.I need these courses completed by May 31st 2013, if I want to be accepted into the program Sept 2013.

There is a lot going through my mind though. I am trying to apply for my Czech Citizenship (through my dad's side) because I recently found out that if I get my CC and thereby being apart of the EU, I can go to certain universities in Europe--like in Ireland and Sweden--free of tuition! Compared to spending $12,000 in Canada!

However--if I am lucky--I won't find out whether I get my Czech Citizenship or not until August 2013. By then it will be too late to apply for university abroad or in Canada. So I am trying to cover my ass by getting things done.

Though I have been so overwhelmed with working at the mill, then switching back to the pool under the promotion of Head Lifeguard, having to start courses for the pool that start this weekend that alongside my 40 hours a week will keep me busy until January 11th, plus the idea that I'd have to look into scholarships and student loans if I want to go to a university in Canada has made me exhausted, upset, and stressed.

So I came to the conclusion that if I don't go to university this coming Sept, that is ok. What's another 6 months or another year? I can take my time getting the courses I need, I don't need to over work myself for things that may not even be applicable once I find out the status of my CC and right now I am so secured in this new position at the pool that I don't have to worry about finances.

I guess what I am trying to figure out is if I should continue on with my studies in French. I'd like to take the Writing and English Literature courses I applied for at this Distance Education School. I've just been so busy that I didn't think it would be a good time.

The other issue is that I took out a loan from the bank in order to get these courses and this laptop. If I am no longer enrolled in the school, they will cut off my loan.

I don't know exactly what it is that makes French so hard to learn. When I took it in grade 8 I got 105% in the course! My teacher always assigned bonus assignments so that you could make up for any deductions you got on tests. Maybe it was easier because I had someone right there for one-on-one help. Online isn't the same. Their French is also combined with Rosetta Stone and to be honest I don't like how they teach it.

I want to pursue a career in Language Translation or Teaching English as a Second Language. In my mind the best way to learn a language is to immerse yourself in a community that speaks it continuously.

I'm half Czechoslovakian, half Filipino, born Canadian so my friends call me Czechipinadian! Though because I live in a place that doesn't speak either of my parent's native tongue often enough, and the fact that my parents don't understand each other's native langue, I am unfortunately not even bilingual.

On the subject of Rosetta Stone, I don't like how they teach French. In my mind the important basics about learning French should be knowing how to say 'I don't understand.', asking 'Could you please repeat that?', 'Could you say that more slowly please?', 'Where is the bathroom?', 'How much does that cost?', understanding how to order meals, how to ask for directions, how to buy things, proper greetings and manners. The problem with Rosetta stone is that it is trying to teach you things like you are kindergarden. The only two--I'll even stretch out to three--important things to learn in a foreign language that derives from kindergarden I think are the alphabet, numbers, and colours. My problem with my French Rosetta stone is that I haven't learnt the alphabet. It wasn't until halfway through the module that I started to even learn about numbers and colours.

I hate learning phrases like 'She reads.', 'He drinks.' 'They swim.' In the great words of the King of Siam 'etc, etc, etc.'

I follow this amazing blog called Fluent in 3 Months this guy is amazing! He also has a forum about language learning programs like Rosetta Stone and his intake on them and whether he'd recommend them or not.

Long story short, he does not recommend Rosetta Stone for learning, however he did suggest a language learning program called Teach Yourself (insert language).

I am very passionate about learning the Swedish language. In fact while I have been typing this I noticed in my head that some of the words came to me first in Swedish. This makes me very happy as I think it shows that I am progressing. I bought the Teach Yourself Swedish and though I have not touched it besides the first lesson since I felt that my priorities rested with French, the first thing I learnt was the Swedish alphabet!

If you are wondering why don't I just take the language course 11 in Swedish, well like I said it needs to be an APPROVED language course in order for me to get school credits. Swedish is not one of the approved.

During this spiel of mine I think I have answered my own question. I am going to do my best to finish my French 10, since I did pay $500 for course (Teach Yourself only costed me $40 from Amazon. I guess though with Teach Yourself I can't get school credits.) dismiss it and continue with my Swedish and enrol in my distance English Literature and Writing courses.

If I manage to get these done before May, then I will enrol in the rest of my French courses. Whether it is for university or not, knowing French is a good asset. If I don't, well then I'll contact the university in Canada I am interested in and ask them if they offer the program in January and when is the deadline to apply.
