About Me
"The truth of art lies in its power to break the monopoly of established reality to define what is real." -Herbert Marcuse
"It is the frank & cynical recognition of the inevitable limitations of people in general which makes me absolutely indifferent instead of actively hostile toward mankind." -HP Lovecraft
"Kind of like sniffing a couple hundred thousand magic markers while getting a slow, sheet-lightning enema, isn't it?" -god, in Red Meat (9-22-97)
The 2012 Summer Camp Music Festival in Chillicothe, IL was a wicked good time.

When my girlfriend, a mutual chick friend, and I showed up, our tents were already pitched behind our other friends' vending booth (at the beginning corner of shakedown). There were two other friends' tents right there, too, so we stretched a tarp between them and made a covered "living room" for us to chill in when we weren't seeing excellent shows or hanging out at other friends' camp sites. The beer and water I had sent ahead were also chilled and waiting, so we got right into party mode...and didn't look back until we had to pack up and leave this morning.

The highlights of the first day were definitely Gogol Bordello and Primus. It was doubly awesome when Bob Weir (of the Grateful Dead) came out and jammed "The Other One" WITH Primus; I never thought I'd see THAT! Here's a clip some guy who was closer than us took of that incredible jam:

Here's a couple of pics of the other groups we saw Friday:

The Infamous Stringdusters

Leftover Salmon

Weir, Robinson, Greene Acoustic Trio

Gogol Bordello
Saturday was a lighter day for music; there wasn't a lot that I just HAD to see, so we spent a good part of the day hanging out with friends at campsites and trying to stay cool. Some of the groups we DID see were:

Gaelic Storm (they were supposed to play on Friday, but schedules got screwed up and they surprised us with a spectacular show at 11am set Saturday)

G Love and the Special Sauce

G Love and the Special Sauce w/Warren Haynes (formerly of the Allman Brothers, currently with Gov't Mule)

Gov't Mule

Miss Amphetamine

Henhouse Prowlers (a.k.a. Sexfist)

A nifty, fire-spinning burlesque show
Sunday was a great day for tunes, for sure...

Chicago Farmer

Yonder Mountain String Band

Tedeschi Trucks...
