This entry is going to be a few entries in one.

1.Do not melt margarine in a microwave on high. Unless you want a butter flavored microwave smile

2.For those that are interested in details about the United States financial market bailout try the below videos from Naomi Klein. She explains well why it is largely a scam of the United States taxpayer.

On a side note, I love a strong, articulate, intelligent woman.

3. President-elect Obama has been posting videos on YouTube. If you're interested in what he has to say try the videos from ChangeDotGov. Example of the latest-

4.My last post was fairly bitter and I've snapped back. Yes, it would be easy for me to be a jaded asshole. It's tempting and I certainly have plenty of life experiences that would justify me being that way however I willfully reject giving into fear and cynicism. I refuse to be defined by them. I'm not going to let the jerks win by robbing me of my idealism, optimism and empathy. They can't have 'em!

I suppose I am a paradox in some ways. I am a rational idealist. In other words I practice, hope for the best yet prepare for the worst.

5.Ideas of manhood and strength. It saddens me to a degree that so many believe that in order to be a man they must be callous, and can't have emotional depth.

Also they confuse being a strong confident man with being an arrogant asshole. One is pretending to be what the other actually is. The arrogant asshole is usually dreadfully insecure. The arrogant asshole also does a lot to damage goodwill between men and women.

It's unfortunate that some men and women embrace stereotypes that make them incomplete. Women can be assertive, and rational yet be very feminine. Men may be compassionate and nurturing and still be very masculine. I believe women should embrace positive things that are traditionally viewed as masculine and men should embrace some positive attributes that are traditionally viewed as feminine. Again, I feel that makes a complete person.

6.Is it ok to eat the "green" potato chips?

The world is ending and it may be averted. I've learned the secret to avert this disaster with the following tools; a magic 8-ball, an Etch A Sketch, a Ouija board, and a Rubik's cube.

I only ask for a small fee of approximately 100million dollars to use this knowledge to deliver our planet.

I may also add that I've being playing with the LeMarchand puzzle box some call the Lemarchand Configuration. That leaves us roughly two weeks to save the world before the Cenobites come.

Please help. Go to givemeallyourshitfornoreason.com and make a donation today before it's too late.

whatever

I don't know who disgusts me more; the people running these fear mongering scams in the United States or the dimwitted dupes that buy this same nonsense over and over.

Here's a novel idea, the next time they come running with "the sky is falling" crap, call their bluff.

Let the wealthy clean up their own mess. The money from these shake downs will not go where they say and they don't deserve it. Poorly managed businesses should fail. They are doing these things because they know they can.

The golden rule. Its origins and some criticism-

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ethic_of_reciprocity

"This ironic version is most often used dismissively by economists and stock traders; it is not so much an opposite of the Golden Rule as a claim that moral precepts are decided by those who have wealth and the power that wealth can bring, i.e. they are not really moral precepts, merely rules allowing those with wealth and power to hold onto or increase that wealth and power."

This is a good time of year to discuss these things. As well as the existence of agnostics and atheists. Personally, I consider myself agnostic.

Some people pay lip service to religion out of fear of being outcast or actually attacked. I believe our predominantly Christian status is as largely mythical as our "free markets". I think many say they believe in god because it's an easy way out or to avoid negative attention.

I know atheists who have received threats and that have had their property vandalized. Their crime? Just being known as atheists.

Certainly people should express their faith and it shouldn't be assumed or expected for everyone to share said beliefs.

I do believe in "treating others as I would like to be treated." So I believe in the "golden rule" just without all the myth and ritual. I believe in being a decent and just person because it is the best and right thing to do, not because I've received a mandate from some outside person or thing.

Naturally, my idea of "decent" may diverge remarkably from others. For example, I do not associate guilt, fear and shame with sexual impulses/fantasy or the naked body. I believe sexual repression is perverse.

IMO the golden rule is basically moral common sense.

I do try to practice empathy, compassion and justice towards others. I don't always succeed.

On a lighter note, one of my favorite bits on religious circular reasoning smile -

I stood in the rain for a few hours to vote for Senator Obama on November fourth when I said I wasn't going to bother with the election this cycle. The reasons I decided to do this are varied.

For me, a President Obama represents; empathy, inclusion and the opportunity for citizens of the United States to live up to many values we have espoused in the past. He is a symbolic rejection of the dehumanization of whole groups of people because they aren't a member of the right; race, sex, religious cult or social class. The choice of a President Obama is a willful rejection of all forms of bigotry. He offers us an opportunity for healing within the nation and with other countries across the globe.

I must admit the transformational joy I've seen in the face of many in the United States did influence me, particularly in the faces of many African-Americans.

A President Obama is also a symbolic rejection of many in the old guard that are roughly 10% of our population that hold 70% of all our wealth. Many of these people have traditionally taken the attitude that they may defecate upon the rest of us and we had best not be ungrateful by disliking it.

I hope people do not miss the point of an Obama presidency. He is not a magic wand or a messiah that is going to do it all for us. He is presenting us with an opportunity to get to work and be the best we may possibly be. He's presenting us with an opportunity to choose to make a resolution to be something better.

Indeed it's time for the United States to become something better, to enter a new era.

I do hope people seize on the opportunity that is being presented. I know I intend to do just that.

For many fear is "the mind killer" and cynicism is a poor choice. Usually fear and hatred destroy the practitioner and not the object. Often we cheat ourselves by proceeding down this path.

Yes we can? Yes we may choose to be.

A repost because I expanded it-

I am really not in the mood to write some long convoluted post. Instead I'll post up some of my current favorite songs. That's the best way to "know me" anyway-
