So the last few days there has been talk from the politicians about putting a holiday on the gas tax for a brief period of time so that all of us struggling people can save some money. Now in theory this may be a good idea, except for the fact that gas prices are so inflated right now that the savings will be less than minimal. I even saw a clip of Bill Clinton talking about what a great idea it was because of the workiers that must decide between goign to work and feeding their families. Wow I didn't know that two dollars a tank would feed a family.
That's all the savings would come down to, as the tax holiday would save about 16 cents a gallon. As a lot of vehicles are around 15 gallons or so (cars that is), a savings of 16 cents a gallon would come down to a savings of $2.40. Now that is something, I won't argue with that, but when you pay 40 dollars per tank, $2.40 really isn't that much, and how it would feed a family I don't know. I realize that there are family's that have to drive a lot for work and that they might fill up more often, but even if you fill up five times in one month that is 200 dollars you are spending and then you save 12 dollars, so really once again it isn't all that great.
Another thing is how does our government think that cutting a tax like this is going to truly help when it is so far in debt that it needs all the tax revenue it can muster. Part of me thinks that the republicans can see a defeat in the future and they want to screw the economy as much as possible so that the democrats only get one term in office before they can take it back over and screw us up even more. I like to try and figure out how the republican outlook on taxes helps us, because I really can't see how it helps anyone out that they are now trying to appeal. They send out economy stimulus checks that are supposed to be used to buy things to help out the country, but then most people are going to use it to pay off debt that...
