The Oracle.

When I was a lot younger, I encountered an oracle in the woods behind my house who was able to tell me exactly how the rest of my life would play out, and she did. She told me everything. She told me my successes, my failures, my relationships, my loves, the illnesses, the deaths, days, years, marriage, children, affairs, retirement, etcetera, etcetera, and everything in between. When she'd finished, I nodded and wandered off and thought for a long time, wishing I hadn't listened, and for the rest of my life I'd try so very hard to change the inevitable.
