As you may have gathered from my profile I am a connoisseur of all things involving legendary and/or larger than life heroes. Be it the Ancient and enduring tales of the Great Greek Heroes, The many great literary Heroes of all centuries, or the modern day heroes saving their cites and worlds from the constant threat of Supervilliany in the pages of Comic books I always have the knowledge of continuity and enthusiasm to jump into any medium featuring these great Heroes.
Now that Hollywood is finally allowing filmmakers within its ranks to take Comic Book Movies seriously I am becoming ever more aware that I am not alone in my fandom. The convention center where the San Diego Comic Con (The Granddaddy of All nerd events) has always been held is no longer able to hold the growing number of fans attending the San Diego Comic Con. I’m not kidding; it was all over the Nerd News that the Next San Diego Comic Con will most likely have to be held in a larger convention Center in LA in the very near Future.
Speaking of Comic Con this Year’s Comic Con is going to be huge!!! The tickets went on sale online and sold out in 40 some odd minutes. Which is not Surprising, you have Marvel Studious kicking off Phases two of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, you Have the first Full Length Godzilla trailer (and yes this one is going to be a Hell of a lot better than the one in 1988) you have DC who will no Doubt Have to make some major announcements of their own, Dude If I have a genie in a magic lamp right now my first wish would be tickets to this year’s comic Con (actually I’d probably wish for Comic Con tickets for life but you get my point) I particularly looking forward to all the announcements DC is going to make at this year’s Comic Con. Many conflicting rumors and conflicting “unconfirmed reports” on the Nerd News have been saying all kinds of differing and conflicting things about a potential Justice League movie (one thing that all the articles agree on is that Warner Brothers has their heads up their asses right now) As uncertain as the future leadership and functionality of Warner Brothers is right now I find it hard to swallow that with the popularity and Success of Comic Book movies get exponentially greater and great that Warner Brothers and/or DC would allow themselves to come present a both at what has to be the most highly anticipated Comic Con yet empty handed. If there is any Justice in this world DC will be announcing multiple upcoming movies of their own (yes that pun was intended).
But it isn’t all good news in the world of Fandom. As my fellow nerds are all too well aware the Comic Book industry (yes I’m talking about actual comic BOOKS) has been constantly bombarding loyal fans with meaningless shock deaths. For those of you not in the know a shock death is when Executives at either DC or Marvel make the stupid decision to literally force writers to kill off an important main character in a popular series as a way of getting attention to the character and increasing sales. Us nerds are far from shocked when this actually happens within the time span of a few months the character they killed off will come back to life via time travel, magic, cloning, or my personal favorite having it turn out they were never really dead in the first place. Some of you may be thinking that if the popular hero they kill off comes back in a few months what’s to worry about? Batman, Superman, Spider-Man or whoever will come back and you can go right back to reading and/or enjoying their adventures. Sadly it isn’t that simple. Because characters are constantly dying and coming back to life in the DC and Marvel Universes it becomes harder and harder to care about their well-being. How emotionally invested can you expect us to be when Batman and Robin are in a particularly precarious situation if we know that if they die they can just come back and return to status quo as if nothing happened.
That having all been said One of my personal favorite characters in the DC Universe has just been the victim of yet another “shock” death. Damian Wayne. For those of you who only know that Batman Mythos through Movies and TV Damian Wayne is not just the current Robin (yes Dick Grayson is not the only one to have ever upheld the mantle of Batman’s sidekick Robin) he was Bruce Wayne’s only biological son. I won’t get deep into the continuity of How Batman came to have a super badass assassin (yes he was a killer for hire) but I will say that Damian Wayne was by far the most 3 dimensional character in all of the ongoing Batman comics. Batman struggle to help his son quell his killer instinct and be part of regular society and become a good, emotionally stable person was something the likes of which I had never seen before in comics. People often Criticize Comic Books, video games, and even porn for “not being art” supposedly because they either don’t make you Feel anything or only make you fell one thing. I’m hear to tell all of those pretentious douche bags that the story arcs involving Damian Wayne’s struggle and Bruce’s struggle to help him though it was the most emotional thing I had ever read and/or watched in my entire life. I’ll never forget when Damian out of desperation had to against the teachings and practices of Batman and killed a man right in front of his father to protect that very same father. Damian Wayne is by far the best Robin to have ever do battle alongside the Caped crusader. He’s the most badass out of all the Robins and his stories are as I have already explained much more deep and heartfelt. DC’s decision to kill off this character for a mere cash grab is loathsome. Batman has been nearly broken by the death of a Robin before (that Robin did not come back till many years later (keep in mind this was BEFORE the constant shock deaths in the industry) and ultimately came back as a Super Villain that still wants to kill Bruce Wayne/Batman. I really don’t think we should have to have Bruce go through all of this all the while the audience knowing that Damian Wayne will be back and the series will either return to status quo or WORSE yet Damian will return and Batman will be all over protective of him from then on.
As if that wasn’t enough to piss me off this week in the Nerd News it turns out Danial Ratcliff Star and the Harry Potter movies and Nerd celebrity will be play Igor in an upcoming remake of the Universal Frankenstein movies. Again, you may find yourself saying so what? I’ll tell you so What those damn Universal “classics” about “Frankenstein” are horrid pieces of shit and I can clearly tell these ones are going to be just as bad. You may be thinking how can you know how good a movie is if they haven’t even made it yet? I’ll tell you that too. The Character Ratcliff has been cast as never existed in Marry Shelly’s Frankenstein. Some idiots that were in charge of Universal at the time made him up. And that’s not all, Frankenstein’s Castle was never supposed to be in the story either. And the monster was never supposed to be a flat skulled Brute that couldn’t talk. In fact VICTOR Frankenstein marveled at how eloquent and persuasive his creation was. In addition to those things there was no burning windmill sequence or mobs of villagers in any of the original story. I could do an entire Blog Post on this but I’ll cut it off here. Basically they have establish that rather than finally giving Marry Shelly’s great work of art it due they are explicitly telling us that this will simply be a rehash of the crap Universal already put out all those decades ago, but this time in muted color instead of Black and White. This is even worse than what they did to Sherlock Holmes in those Robert Downey Junior Movies.
WHY DOES HOLLYWOOD KEEP PUNISHING ME FOR READING!!!!

Suicidegirls has prided itself to promoting real beauty. SG has claimed time and time agian to pride itself on the pormotion of alternative beauty. Their mission statement is full of defiance of the media's standardized form of beauty that encourages women to starve themselves so that they can be a size zero.
That ideology was always SG's greatest strength not just philosopically but financially. How many nudie sites are there on the internet that catter to a ridiculously specific niche or fetish within the horny man demographic just to be competitive. What makes Suicidegirls.com such a great nudie site is that if fills the "needs" of many different nudie niches. If you like hardcore goth chicks they got it, if your into naked nerds they got it complete with a section for cosplay sets, if you like women with super big boobs they got you covered. if you little itty bitty titties they got those too. Curvy, not Cury patiet, statueque Blonde, redhead, asian, black, white, latina, Escimo, Native American, inne vagina, outtie vagina SG had at least a little of everything. There was no one standard of beauty that SG promoted over any other. Sadly I think this is begining to change.
For at least a few months now I have noticed A great number of the beatiful Curvy women either leaving the site or needlessly triming down until all their beautiful curves are gone and they begin to resemble the mainstream "super" modles that SG was supposedly created to couter agianst.
I won't name names because many of these strong, independate and once beautiful I respect, and at the end of the day have the right to do whatever they wish to their own bodies. Additionally I'd propably also get in trouble with the site and have everyone on the site both staff and member lashing out at me.
I sense that some of the Higher ups at SG MAY be pressuring the Curvy women it has in it's ranks to slim down. As many in the Big Boob Appreciation threads have noticed there have not been any curvy, busty, or big assed SG making the front page in a long time. In addition to this I've noticed some of the SG staff members who are also SGs ridding themselves of there beautiful curves even though they were clearly at a healthy body weight before.
And to put the cherry on top of this exposed rib cage sunday The very beautiful Hopeful Rielee has left the site. (I was trying to link her page but it just sends me back to the homepage. Her profile must already be gone.) She was a Curvy Busty Beautiful women till the last. I don't actually know why she left but I suspect it may have to do with her having been a Hopefull since the summer of 2010.
I fear SG is forgeting the philosphy that made it Great to begin with. If they are going through with this they chose a bad time to jump onto the boney stick figure bandwagon. Mainstream magazine have already begun photoshoping "Super" models to make them look bigger. (which is not to say they're making them look fat just giving them the appearence of being resonably well nurised) Ultimately ridding the site of more Curvy women would not only be bad philosphically but it would be bad financially. More and more "Fashion shows" are requiring a minimum weight to model at said shows. and If that Sociology class taught me anything it's that culture has a very stong influence on what is percieved to be beautiful or sexual by the individuals of that culture.
I implore all SG staff and even regular SG members to do everything in their power to support Curvy Hopefuls and SGs. Give the MR sets of these beautiful women some extra love. Let them know they don't need to change themselves to be approved or considered drop dead gorgeous.
