So you might have noticed I've been slightly absent from SG for a while!
I've been directing my first full pressional production! My new theater company, The Washington Rogues, is presenting "Busted Jesus Comix", a dark comedy by David Johnston, as part of the 2008 Capital Fringe Festival here in DC. I hope you can make it out!
Here's a bit about the play from our general release:
"Hilarious, touching, and just a little depraved, Busted Jesus Comix tells the story of Marco, a gay teenager brought up on felony obscenity charges in his home state of Florida … for publishing his amateur comic book. Based on true events, Marco's sentence is the stuff of which First Amendment legends are born. Three years probation. Fines. Mandatory psychiatric counseling. But worst of all for Marco, he is banned from drawing. Cut off from his creative outlet, estranged from his family, hounded by religious crusaders, and caught up in the Ex-Gay movement, Marco struggles to adapt to his new infamy as a censored artist and societal outcast. Newly arrived in New York City, Marco awaits an interview at mega-size coffee chain Dazzle Cups, an interview that will expose the secrets of his past, and offer him a chance at a new life. Presented as part of the Capital Fringe Festival: unjuried, risk-taking independent performing arts. "
I'm exceptionally proud of the actors and artists that have come together for this project, and I want to share it with as many people as possible. Here is the basic information:
Location: Flashpoint - Mead Theater Lab. 916 G Street, NW 20001 (Near the Chinatown/Gallery Place Metro)
Tickets: $15.00, available at the Fringe Box Office: 607 New York Avenue, NW or online at http://www.theatermania.com/content/show.cfm/show/144622
Performance Dates and Times:
Friday, 7/18/08, 10:30pm
Sunday, 7/20/08, 12:00pm
Wednesday, 7/23/08, 6:30pm
Saturday, 7/26/08, 8:00pm
Sunday, 7/27/08, 4:30pm
The festival itself begins July 10th, and will feature around 130 individual plays. Fringe festivals tend towards the cutting edge of theater. These are artists coming together to present works they may not have the resources to present on their own. The Capital Fringe Festival is in its third year. Every show I've seen during the festival has been a huge thrill.. More information about the festival can be found here: http://www.capfringe.org/
Once this is over, I'll be around much much more!

Back from a brief stay in the oblivion of billing issues.
Rehearsals for the show start in two days. So excited.

I am on day two of a really kick-ass four and a half day weekend. Much love to everybody who came out to the event at Palace of Wonders on Thursday. More details later!
In the meantime, new Weezer! This is always a good thing:

Lighting just struck so close to my apartment that the entire room filled with blinding white light, even though the shades were drawn. The thunder shook the building. It's been thunderstorm non-stop since 8 AM.
Just thought I'd share.
The second round of auditions were yesterday. The show is almost cast. Then the real work begins. Life, it just keeps on happening.

This might be the coolest thing I've seen all year!

Well, the good news is I've made it through withdrawl and come out the other side. No coffee for five days so far.
The bad news I haven't had a cup of coffee because my insides are currently in revolt. After a week of stomach churning, abdominal pain, and heartburn, the doctor says I probably have gastritis, an inflamed stomach. I'm down for a few days of rest at the very least.
That's been the low point of this roller-coaster of a week. While my body fights against me, my career has taken a big leap forward. I'm directing and producing a play called "Busted Jesus Comix" for the Capital Fringe Festival come July. I've known about this for some time now, but haven't discussed it much while the legalities have been worked out.
I've spent the past week signing up actors for auditions to be be held next Saturday, and have so far blasted through my expected 20 applicants all the way to 35, and we're only halfway through the application period. So, that's exciting. After casting, I'll just need a couple more designers, and the show will be set. This process has pretty much consumed my mind since October, when I first applied for the rights to the play, so if I've seem distant from my Suicide Girls social life, that's a big reason why.
Now, check this out. You'll be a more complete human being after viewing:
