So, as you know my original plan to visit was cancelled. BUT I will most likely be down from Fri, 30 May to Tues, 3 June. Catching up is a must. 
Checking with Miss BeaEffEff as the plan is to stay with her in her sweet new pad so dates are still tentative, but checking with all and sundry to give plenty of warning! You free?

Seriously, for a laugh, click on this website. Luis Pinto is my dance instructor in hip hop, and he's a great dancer and a great teacher. Unfortunately, he also has pretty much the WORST (or perhaps BEST, depending on your criteria) website in the world. If ever I feel a bit down, I just go to megajam.com.au and check out the "Megajam Dancers". HILARIOUS. But if you want to see a sample of the sort of dancing I learn (though the sample stuff is beginners and I am intermediate now so am doing a lot of floorwork - the balancing on one arm stuff!), click on the "Megajam Trailers" and watch the videos.
Oh, and the TV ads on there are equally crazy. Cheese, cheese and more cheese. Insanity.

Very well put.
I like being energised by my frustration at something/someone - and that's where people like Dworkin are infinitely useful, I think, if you use them as fuel towards doing things differently, taking the 'good stuff' and running with it, and fireblasting the shit out of the rest. You know enough about my views on sex generally that would suggest which parts of Dworkin's thinking I'd particularly like to aim a flamethrower at. I guess my thinking is that she doesn't NEED to hinder the development of feminist thought - she can be an energising influence if enough people are angry enough to react against her. Best bit of JS Mill's free-speech theory right there... let the simplistic people spur you on to do good as you learn from their mistakes.
Or so I'm telling myself - am drafting the introduction to my thesis and endeavouring to justify my desire to flamethrow most previous academics' work.

See, I still think she's really useful, and thus I can't "reject" her. She's fodder for better things, I think. So while she's a demented puritanical psycho, as you said, she's the psycho we had to have. And I'm hardly going to say 100% of her entire oeuvre was worthless, evil or demented. The large proportion that was, though, was worth it not so people can revere it (they shouldn't, but do) but so they can kick it in the shins, hard, again and again. A straw man can make wonders for counterargument and Dworkin was that in spades. So "ditching" isn't the project, and shouldn't be, because erasing the past is impossible and redundant. Using frustration for energy, and generating the forward thrust of change and development, requires that past as fodder. That might be too touchy-feely but we should be grateful for the people we bitterly despise if that energy is channelled positively.
In this way, I am grateful for Norman Mailer, even though I cheered when I found out he'd died.
