the bad thing is they broke the hand rail on the back balcony as they ran out as fast as they could.

If I were to be robbed, I'd prefer it to be by a stranger, an acquaintance breaking in just seems so . . . violating (?)
This is why you should have a werewolf - - of course, if anyone knew said werewolf, the deterrent effect would be diminished to the point of worthlessness, again another reason to prefer burglars who are strangers.

In all seriousness, I'm sorry to hear this. I'm glad you didn't lose more than the handrail.
