Today I got paid to shop. How awesome is that? And the best part: the government pays for whatever I buy. I love my job.
Lately I haven't been getting nearly enough writing done and I think it's beginning to show. What I need is time to just sit down at my computer, no distractions, and just write... and that will never, ever, ever, ever, ever happen. I have realised recently that I am far too busy. Stupid adulthood.
Ah well... maybe I'll use my upcoming internet drought to write something down on paper... haha paper... cause people still use that...

Primeval = new favourite tv show.
It's not technically new as it'll be starting it's fourth season next year, but it's new to me and it's freaking awesome. Tears in space and time causing anomalies to appear and dinosaurs to come and say hello is awesome. And Andrew Lee Potts and James Murray aren't bad either.
Today I over ate at brunch cause it's my sisters birthday tomorrow and she wanted her party today. We went to Drexl's which you may or may not know of. It's an all day breakfast restaurant with ridiculously large servings. It was awesome.
My internet drought is over, thank god, so I'm insanely happy. And I missed my cats, randomly enough. They grew a ridiculous amount in the week I was away which I do not understand. But I am glad to be hanging out with them again.
Alright, back to my tv show now, till tomorrow!

Amanda. Fucking. Palmer.
Now, i could leave it at that cause it pretty much sums everything up, but for those of you who aren't telepathic, I'll explain.
Amanda Palmer (lead singer of the Dresden Dolls nad now a solo artist) came to New Zealand and played in my town last night. My friend was opening and I was secretly hoping that Amanda's fiance (my own personal God, Neil Gaiman) would be there, so I payed my forty bucks and went. Hera, my friend, was amazing as per usuall, Neil wasn't there which was saddening (fucking Manila) but, it was all made better by the fact that Amanda Palmer is fucking amazing. I'm swearing a lot more than usual, if you couldn't tell, cause coming back from and Amanda gig leaves you like that as her name is actually Amanda Fucking Palmer, and she swears a lot. Anyway, she is my new musical obsession, because a)she's really talented and b)she played Radiohead's 'Creep' on a fucking Ukelele... there is no denying the sheer win of that.
Anyway, enough of that ramble, I'll go back to my internetless corner, see you Saturday!

Day one of a giant psychic fair was today. It was pretty awesome actually.
My mother is an astrologer so we tend to frequent these things, with her giving readings and myself wandering around spending money or working one of the shop stalls. So in the morning I wandered around buying presents for people, and then I spent the afternoon sitting behind the stall making a new friend.
Yeah... doesn't really sound so interesting... but I had fun and that's what matters lol.
But now, I must farewell all thee who dwell in internetland. For the next week I'll be house sitting. In a house with no internet. I don't know how I'm going to cope, but somehow I'll manage. I'll probably get a crap load of writing done.

Today was cafe day.
Every friday, I spend all day in the best cafe in town writing one of my books. I do this for several reasons. The coffee and food is really good, the people there are fantastic, and it's good to have a day I dedicate entirely to writing, otherwise I'd never get anything done.
Of course, I took a small break from cafe day today to get my tattoo touched up. Weirdly enough I have no photos of my tat but I'll get some when I get my camera back. As well as getting a touch up, I began planning my next one, which will be big, expensive, and probably painful. I can't wait.
And now, I am watching re-runs of Xena Warrior Princess.

I GOT MY HAIR CUT.
Finally, it's been waaay over due. And now I have a fringe. Yes, I will get pictures...probably tomorrow as right now I am rushing through this blog 'cause I have a friend over and am trying not to ignore her for the internet. So yes... and that's all I got today as nothing even slightly interesting happened at work today.
Until tomorrow!

ETA: HA SHE IS ON THE PHONE. HAVE A CRAPPY WEBCAM PIC

So. Much. Pain.
Today, mountain biking was a go. Now, having not been on a bike in three years, I was apprehensive, though excited. And the kids were pretty stoked. There were a couple who were slow, but one of the other leaders hung back to take care of them, and I was put in the middle to make sure the kids behaved while my boss lead the way. The aim was to go all the way through Bottle Lake Forest to Spencer Park and back again.
We didn't even get a quarter of the way.
The kids couldn't behave (which is of course why they're on the program to begin with) and the slow kids were REALLY SLOW so we had to keep starting and stopping. And then, there is the fact, that I'm so horribly out of shape it's just not funny. Unfitness + hot weather = DEATH. I really need to do something about my fitness level cause that was just not a good feeling.
Other than that it was pretty good. One kid had a SPECTACULAR fall. After speeding down a steep hill (screaming "son of a bitch!" as he went), hitting a tree stumping and colliding with a tree he raised his fists into the air and yelled "I wanna do it again!" He is awesome.
And now, my ass hurts. So much. And yes, you did need to know that.
I think that's all I got today.

Another day another blog...
So, the previously planned mountain biking trip was cancelled, as another leader had scheduled us to do Waka Arma instead and, given the choice, the kids chose that.
What is Waka Arma you may be asking yourself? Allow me to explain.
Here in good ol' New Zealand, the native people are known as maori. The maori people were pretty kick ass back in the day, warriors, and dancers and weavers and generally just full of awesomeness. And they had special canoes called wakas. Now, maori culture has sort of fallen by the wayside, so the maori people that are still around, are trying to revive it. Also full of awesome. So, there's this kayak/canoe/waka club that allows us to take the kids there so they can learn about team work and listening to instructions as the only way to make a waka move with any speed is to listen to the steerer and follow instructions in unison.
So we did that today instead of mountain biking, and i got completely drenched in the Avon River... which is a pretty disgusting river.
After work, my friends and I went to see the new Alice In Wonderland movie. Which was pretty fucking awesome really. If you're an Alice purest you may not like it, but me, I loved it. Every second of it. Even the weird corny dance moves.
On that note, I should probably sleep considering I have to get up at stupid o'clock in the morning in order to get to work on time... Christ I hope I have enough bus money...
Fare thee well!

My first blog entry DUN DUN DUN!
Actually, it's not even remotely dramatic, as I have nothing interesting to say. Instead, I shall ramble about my day at work. Which, while the beginning of a full week, is not actually all that interesting.
First, I suppose I should probably explain what exactly my job is. As a Youth Worker, I work with at risk youth in a not so savoury area of my city, trying to make them less at risk. This involves having a group of kids each tuesday and wednesday morning, and letting them talk about whatever's going on at home, and generally making them feel safe. Surprisingly enough, that's all it really takes.
ON TOP OF THAT, part of my job is to learn skills so I can get employed elsewhere when my contract runs out (it's some complicated government scheme). So on mondays (like today) I learn random skills. Today it was screen printing.
Here's where I get to the point. Screen printing, we actually do every monday until the wonderful lady teaching us all gets sick of us. Anyway, so, I spent all of last week painstakingly cutting out of annoying plastic, a stencil I wished to print onto a t-shirt. Then realised I had done it wrong and had to start again (with a lot of swearing). But today, it all got finished... and I managed to print a kick-ass picture of Jack Skellington being creepy onto the top I was wearing.
Wasn't that an awesome story?
No, not really, but tomorrow we take the first group of kids out mountain biking... maybe that will be more exciting.
Till then
