Got home from work last night, Melly is taking the day off work and snoozing in bed, and I'm sitting near a window watching, listening and breathing in the rainfall. Sounds like a perfect time to whip-up a blog.
For the tl;dr crowd:
Onto the extrapolation!
WORK STUFF
It's always a bit difficult deciphering if I'm where I wanted to be this far along (nearly 4 and a half years) in my Metallurgical career, but by all reasonable estimates I'm going pretty well. Moving from a green-as-can-be, scum-bag Graduate Metallurgist to being considered for a Senior Metallurgist position in only 4 years (which typically takes a Met of 6-8 years of experience in that particular metal) says that I'm moving in the right direction.
I've also got a big whiteboard that I've basically covered entirely in solving a problem I've encountered on one of my projects regarding fluid dynamics, so I feel like a mother-fucking scientist too instead of the typical bucket-chemist and hack accountant ![]()
One of the great pleasures in my life is getting picked up at the airport after a swing of work. It's such a seemingly small gesture, but reliably having it as soon as I step off that plane puts me at ease almost instantly. Thanks Melleah ![]()
HOUSE STUFF
So far, so good! Hasn't really been that stressful yet (I'm into pre-start, no slab on the ground etc but I own the land), but that's mostly because I meticulously check other peoples work.
I know that at work, in every report and presentation, I strive to prepare and perform it in the most professional manner warranted, and I fuck up. I fuck up the smallest of details pretty damn consistently. But that's OK because once it's passed over another set of eyes it all seems so obvious and ho-ho a lessoned is learned thanks buddy-o-pal.
The people who organise my finance, settlement, real estate and housing are not my "buddies".
But it's OK. You check over their work at a slower rate than they'd probably like, you spot the irregularities and they get fixed on the spot before anything is signed.
Definitely makes you double-guess what you've previously been told in person, but not seen yet on paper (hello surprise $1,800 fee for European House Borer payment that we explicitly asked about months ago, but now have to pay because that's what it says on the paper work).
As for the house design itself (PM me if you want to see a plan
) it's a 4 bedroom, 2 bathroom, double-garage house with a study, theatre, alfresco etc. More than enough space for just Melly, Hyde, our future dog and I. I'm really looking forward to seeing how the high-ceiling entry way flows into the centre of the house, I reckon it's gonna look the tits, big ol' firm tities.
I'll be using this blog to update build photos as it starts rising out of the ground, I'm quite excited it's nearly at that stage ![]()
MUSIC STUFF
As time moves forward, so does my love of music. Really getting neck-deep into the prog-djent movement these days, here're some stuff that I'm listening to these days that really cooks my goose.
You're able to download a lot of these artists material for free either off Soundcloud or Bandcamp ![]()
This weekend I'm off to Bastardfest. 10 hours of STRAIGHT METAL (2 stages!) and beer and pizza and METALLLL!!!! Can not fucking wait to get my mill on, need a good mill, neeeeeeeeeed.
PHOTO STUFF

That'll do for now, hope you're all well ![]()
