I'm still working on getting my way through Halo 2. I'm sure they've made a lot of modifications in 3, so skipping from the first to the latest may male the game feel a lot more different than if you really gave 2 a go first. Plus the storyline continues - completes, as I understand it - and so if you skip 2 and are playing 3 and get the feeling you're missing something, that'd probably be why...
