Two updates in one week? This must be some kind of record.
Some friends invited us to go see the Mucha exhibition in Munich today. Thoroughly worth seeing. His work is so well known from posters and calendars, it's only when you see everything gathered together in one place that you can truly appreciate what a prolific and influential artist he was,
This is my favourite poster:

There's so much good stuff to see here. Just recently I've had the time to start going to art galleries again, and my paint brushes are itching to get going. I'll never be able to draw hands as beautifully as Mucha though. Shame.

Uurrgh. I've had 4 hours sleep, worked a 12 hour day, and feel knackered.
As some of you know, I am studying Roman History right now, and an essay on Roman Britain was due. 2000 words. Aaargh. I am not the world's most enthusiastic essay writer. At least 2 hours of internet procrastination are needed after every coffee break,. Finally the bugger was ready at 1.15am. Went to bed, finally nodded off, to be woken bright and early by an insistent Daffodil demanding Morning Hugs.
A whole day of teaching later, I came home, but still no respite, no way, because a musician I sometimes work with was popping round with her new songs. She's a real sweetheart actually, and writes wonderful stuff, I just help her tidy up the English and find the right words to express what she wants to say.
Now the day is over, I just want to lie in a nice warm tub of water and not think about Roman legionaries or the destruction of Verulamium or the head of Antenociticus for a while.

Jewellery making is my latest passion. I've only been doing it since Christmas, but already I've made enough pieces to fill a decent sized jewellery box. Not only can I make exactly what I want, to go with a special outfit for example, it is so much cheaper than buying similar things ready made in the shops. I've aklso been working through my Grandma's collection of vintage costume jewellery, cleaning and restringing the beads so that I can wear them again without fear of the catch coming loose and dropping beads all over the U-Bahn.
It's a nice day outside, so thought I'd post some pics of my favourite creations for you...and a cat pic or two.

This one is made of glass beads. I love the next one, which is jade, and really heavy!

A friend brought the beads for this next one back from a holiday in Rome. I think of it as my summer necklace because I just love the colours.

Here's my Daffodil boy looking curious and wondering what on earth I am doing taking pictures of pieces of glass on the patio. He loves life here in Germany. There are lots of things to chase, even if his missing teeth means he can't really catch or kill anything. He does, however, make an excellent stapler.

Here are my geraniums....

and my strawberries! I'm really proud of these, because last year they all got some horrible grey rot before I had the chance to eat any. There are some more little strawb plants growing from seed too, but I don't know if they will be big enough to fruit this year.

The sun is beaming down and should stay that way until Saturday.
Fingers crossed anyway. I need to do some serious lazing around outside.
edit: Dammit! Photos are too big and wide! Anyone know how I fix that?

With great glee and beaming, I can announce the essay was handed in on time (by one minute - 00:59 Germany time and 23:59 UK time - love that 1 hour time difference) and actually earned a reasonable mark, despite the fact I thought I wrote complete tripe and was desperate to rewrite the whole thing. Now I have relative freedom until early June. Naturally I am using my free time wisely, by making jewellery, poking about on the internet, and - oh yes - going to the cinema!
We saw the new Star Trek movie on Monday night. Go see it! It is a work of great genius!
I don't think there has been such a good Star Trek movie since the Wrath of Khan. The special effects are great and the young Spock is....welll...quite nice looking.
While in the Trek mood, I found this little gem on the net...enjoy...
I always thought Kirk and Spock would make an interesting couple...is that bad and wrong?

I had a wretchedly busy day at work, and am now relaxing with a very nice Islay malt. Rather than regale you with the dull details of my miserable day, here are some musical gems for your enjoyment and edification.
This one reminded me of going to the Top Club in Washington with my grandpa. Champion, like.
And this one featuring some friends of mine, who you might see now and again busking on the Royal Mile:
I've taken up a new hobby: jewellery making. Not that I was lacking jewellery before, you understand. I have boxes and boxes of the stuff, vintage stuff, all my gramdma's old stuff, Top Shop tat, halfway decent stuff. But we have some great bead shops here in Munich and I am hooked. So tonight, I rustled up a necklace and earrings to cheer myself up. I'll post some soon. There's lots of it - I made five necklaces in a night once, plus various matching bits and bobs.
The only problem now is storing it all.
Hope your week was better than mine...

Greetings from the land of Leberkaese. Spring has sprung unexpectedly quickly in Oberbayern. One day we had snow and miserable, freezing, rotten weather, and the next sunbeams and temperatures in the 20s.
All of Munich dashed for the beer gardens. I spent many cheerful hours outside trying to revive my plants after the long, cold winter, with the result that the sun has fried my skin into itchy little bumps.
Yep, sun allergy. Not something I ever had to worry about in Scotland, you will be unsurprised to learn.
So now my arms and the backs of my hands have the alluring texture of badly-stirred porridge, as well as the colour. BUGGER.
I am now going into hibernation again. It was a long week.
I leave you with this musical gem discovered while tapping random shite into YouTube:

At last! We got our land line installed and that means internet again! At home! Not in some e caff with people peeping over your shoulder and going oooh lookit that!
Managed it all in German too.
Life is running a bit more normally now. We had a big kitty scare when my beloved Daffodil boy failed to return after his first venture outside. Don't know what happened to him but he came back ten days later, very hungry and scared. He is microchipped and tagged and registered with the German cat register, but looks like nobody could get near him. Dai made posters and put them all over town and quite a number of neighbours called, but it was never him. Finally he came back one night accompanied by Bobby. Maybe Bobby found him and helped him find home? Anyway, for the last week he has been too scared to go out, and is only venturing now for short periods of time. We are soooo glad to have him back!
