interesting news on the work front.

I get to start doing e-mail instead of phones indefinately starting Mon. that means headphones + tunes all day while I work. sweet.

then in August I will get to start working from home. even better!

finally some good news from that place.

day 3 of being home alone with the kids. been pretty fun so far. nice to have the place to myself when they're in bed.

uhhh... new Neurosis is excellent. so is the new Melt Banana. Upsilon Acrux is my new favorite math rock band. yeah.

sorry to my chat friends that I haven't been around much this week - that's why, in case you were wondering (but I doubt you were )

I skipped work and stayed in bed for half the day today, that seems to have improved it a fair bit... going to work tomorrow will show me whether I'm right or not.

now that he's back from surgery, he's waaaaaay more playful and friendly that he was before... he'll even actually go near the kids now and hang out when they're around, though he's still pretty tentative about them... all of which leads me to think he was probably having pee issues before we even got him.

but after that little hit ($428 tax in) we'll definitely be signing up for pet insurance methinks...

hope he's ok. we've only had him for a month and a half

well... we FINALLY got rid of my father-in-law for the summer. thank christ he doesn't stay here year round because he was starting to drive me batshit. plus, his presence puts a damper on some of my favorite activities - this site, loud/rough sex, etc - that I only really get to "let loose" with in the summer months. it's a catch-22 though because if he wasn't here in the winter, we'd be absolutely on our own with the kids all year, zero help - we have no relatives in the area and most of our friends are a few years younger and still childless, leaving us the odd ones out in a lot of potential social situations. so at least when he's here, we're a bit more free to go out and whatnot. seriously considering getting a laptop for our bedroom to alleviate some of those concerns. and uh... well, the rest of that statement would be "friends only" material

oh well, he's gone for now and, for better or worse, I'm back to 12 hour days of babysitting but also actually being able to spend some time on SG for a change, among other things. always a trade-off, I guess...

well Velcro is getting more comfortable, finally. sometimes he flinches when we reach to pet him, so now we're thinking he might have been physically abused at some point in his first 5 years... but despite that, he's coming around nicely. he'll even sit at the top of the stairs in sight of the kids (there's a baby gate at the bottom, mind you), which is more than he used to be willing to do. starting to show signs of playfulness too. we'll wear him down eventually

the kids though... talk about unbridled rage on my part. this will make me sound like a bad dad but I don't care - I just want to throttle them lately. Ros is hitting the "terrible twos", which we never really experienced with Vivian since she was such a well-mannered kid in comparison... and at the same time, Vivian is starting to get separation anxiety with Jada, and spends half the day crying because "mommy left her" when Jada goes to work. rationally I know it's normal developmental stuff, but dealing with both at the same time is making me want to put them through windows. plus, they keep waking up at the crack of dawn (6:30am and only getting earlier as the weather gets better) and are cranky shits for the first half of the day no matter what until I can get them to nap. GRRRRR!!!!!!!!!

ok, venting complete.

Jada and I celebrated 9 years yesterday. yay for us. phooey to everyone at our wedding who thought we were getting married too young and wasting their time on something that would end quickly. I mean, it's true, we only did it for student loan money at the time, but it would've happened sooner or later anyway

oh, and facebook is fucking weird. in the past two weeks I've managed to locate virtually everyone I was friends with in high school, most of whom I haven't seen in like 12 years. and then some.

we've had him 5 days now... he hides all day and only comes out at night. so the kids have barely seen him. I think Ros scares him - she's pretty loud without much effort. he's really jumpy at noise. the "pet profile" thing that the previous owners had filled out for the SPCA complained that he "only ever stays in the basement"... and for his first couple days here, whenever he was on the second floor, he'd bolt right back to the basement as soon as he heard one of us coming up there. this leads me to believe he was confined to a basement at some point - if not by the previous owners, then by someone who had him before them.

he's coming around pretty fast with us though and he's HUUUUGE suck. hangs out with us in our bed all night while we sleep...

anyway, as if this place really needs another pussy shot

we're getting a new cat! well, at least we hope we are. we filled out the adoption forms at the SPCA today and picked out a cat. they have to do their "background check" or whatever, so we should know in 2 days. it's kind of an early birthday present for Vivian... there was a neighbor's cat from across the street who was in the woods behind our place a lot and he'd visit us a lot when his people weren't around, because we'd let him in out of the cold etc... anyway, their house went up for sale a few weeks ago so we knew his departure was inevitable. we saw the moving trucks over there this morning so we said "fuck it, time to go get our own cat".
