Wow, what a crazy week it's been. It has absolutely been CRAPtacular frown

If you want the full story it's here.

SPOILERS! (Click to view)

So, this has how the past week has gone. T got a cold Saturday past. Sunday she was feeling pretty crappy. Monday, we're just chilling watching a little TV. The lights are doing a little flickering, but no big deal. Then, we hear a "cheep cheep." Sounds like the smoke detector, so I go upstairs just to check.

I smell something funny, so I start sniffing around. I head back to the bedroom, and the smell is a lot worse, and I see white smoke in the bedroom. I yell down to T that she needs to get upstairs. The smoke is getting thicker, and I think it's coming from one of the outlets. I pull the clock cord out, which disintegrates in my hand.

At that point I decide 911 needs to be called. I call them and inform them that we may have an electrical fire at the house. T is trying to find the cats to get them out of the house. we can't find two of them, and one is hiding under the bed in the smoke filled room. We finally get her out from under the bed and into a carrier. The other two are nowhere to be found. So, we get out of the house.

Next thing we know 4 firetrucks, 2 response vehicles, and 3 police cars are in front of the house.Wow! Everyone got there in like less than 3 minutes. --Don't begrudge a penny I've donated to the police and firefighters over the years -- They go in to see what's up.

After a few minutes, they come out and say they've found the source. Turns out that an older surge protector had failed and began melting down. No damage in the outlet, so doesn't appear to be any electrical damage. The floor was stained where the surge protector was. Luckily that cleaned up with some Windex and elbow grease.

Tuesday morn T turns on the AC, and the lights are flickering every few minutes. So, we turn it off. We call an electrician to come check things out, just in case. They sent someone over, and the outlet where the surge protector was plugged in seems fine. He double checks a few other things, and all looks good. He doesn't do AC, but he says that proper voltage is going there. He also swaps out a few outlets for grounded plugs (we had an adapter on the surge protector). So now we're comfortable that all of the wiring is good.

Wed, someone comes to look at the AC. Turns out the compressor is frozen. To replace the compressor --> @ $3600. UGH!!! So, if we need to layout that kind of money, we might as well get the whole system replaced. The outside unit is about 10 years old, and the air handler is about 25.

Also on Wed, I get a sore throat - thanks T puke - NOT!

Thursday, my head is killing me, throat is sore, and my head is pounding due to all of the congestion. We get the last bid finally. So, we then need to balance how long to wait before work can be done, cost, and ratings from Angie's List and BBB.

So, it's going to be $5800 to have the AC replaced and the work is going to be done this coming Thursday. Luckily a cold front has pushed through. On Thursday it was 86 in the house. Wed it's supposed to be that hot again - blah. Most of us did alright, but poor Willow does NOT do well in the heat. once the house got up above 80, she got really lethargic. She didn't want to eat, and she wouldn't play or purr at all frown

We now have windows open trying to keep the house cool, and we have sheets and blankets over the windows to block out as much sun as possible. Seems to be helping, but Tues and Wed will be the real test - 80+

But, on a more positive note, I'm feeling better now. T is still a little congested though. We went to a Memorial Day Picnic today. That was nice. Got to see some friends we hadn't chatted with in quite awhile. And got to meet a few new people too.

We'd been pretty happy because Mr. Merlin (our male cat) had been on meds to help his OCD and spraying. He hadn't sprayed in weeks. But, today he sprayed all over our guest bed - ugh. But, there were a lot of neighbor cats in our yard and in his line of sight. Hopefully this is only a minor setback.

I did get the yard taken care of last week. Got some weeding and trimming done. And, the Snapdragons are starting to really bloom. I love those things, this is year 4 that they have survived. They are about 2 feet tall now, and they are looking great. Here's a shot of them

Wow, has really been almost three weeks since I posted last? My goodness time flies.

Been on travel a little bit. Headed out to TX for a conference. Then, found out that I have two more conferences: San Antonio and Austin. What is it? Did TX win some bid that said all conferences must be here or something?

But, the nice thing is that i might get a chance to visit my friend that retired a few years ago when I get to San Antonio. She lives about 30 minutes from there. But it makes for a crazy busy June. There's two conferences, my nephew's graduation, a cousin's graduation, a friend's bday party (he and his family have been living in MA for the last three years), and a major D&D gaming session. Next thing I know it'll be July smile

How is that the older you get, the faster time goes???

Today is laundry, clean house, and mow the lawn day. Lawn is a maybe. It's been raining like a MF, and it's super tall. I may have to end up cutting it twice - once to get it to a reasonable level and once to actually cut it. Don't think I'll get there today, but gotta get to the nursery to grab some more snap dragons. The ones I have in the flower garden now are about 3 years old. They just keep blooming and blooming and blooming... They look great through smile

I hope everyone has a great week. I know a few of my friends out on the left coast have been having a rough time this past week/month frown I hope things turn around for them. I keep sending them positive vibes, hopefully it helps. Ciao all.

Hey all. Been awhile, but I'm still in the middle of my travel season. This coming weekend it's off to Waco. Hopefully it will be a decent time. Get to go on a tour of SpaceX and L3.

Had my review this week. It went very well. My boss told me that despite the chatter of layoffs, my employ is quite safe. She said that the upper eschelon still remember a few years ago when I was giving a summary of my position at the time, and I told them it needed to be eliminated for the sake of the company. Today, that story would have a different ending, but I apparently still get props by the big wigs for doing it.

I went to the DBF competition last weekend in Tucson, AZ. It was a great time, despite the 90 degree heat and only 10% humidity. My lips got soooooooo chapped after the first day. I bought some chapstick with spf30 on the next day, but they're only starting to fully recover now - ugh!.

The competition was a blast though. I always enjoy going out there. The dessertscape is so beautiful this time of year. The field we were at for the competition was way out in the middle of the Saguaro National Forrest. Yes, that's right. Saguaro. It's hills and hills of cactai of all kinds: saguaro, pattypan, barrel, and more. And the desert roses are in bloom. Gorgeous.

Well, gonna sign off for now, but here's a photodump of the competition and desert.

And, am I crazy, or is this a Cthulu Cactus?

OK, time for a new blog. Not much really going lately. Work is same ol' same ol'.

Did do my taxes this week though. Getting a refund. Yay!! Now to figure out what to do with it lol.

Been walking and stretching recently. Not huge results, but about 3 pounds down. And the stretching is getting easier, so I guess I'm loosening up a little smile

Oh, and my friend called the other day. His wife is planning a baby shower for some other friends of ours. It's set for 6 March. So, now the project that I meant to start at Christmas is now dues in 5 weeks. Ugh. Hopefully it'll go quick and not be too difficult. C'est la vie.

All right all. Ciao for now.
