So with the dire need to get paid and the hopes that I am as good a graphics designer as I think I am I have entered a contest. Yep I have broken the graphics artist #1 rule of never releasing work before you get paid, also known as don't do free shit. Ugh! Something needs to change... work has come to a complete hault, I am have dried up every resource in town trying to book this show for some friends. I am so stressed out right now I am going to lose my mind. I have like 2/3's of next month rent and my utilities are about to get cut off and now my car is acting funny. I am so screwed...
Finally booked a venue... we now have 4 bands on the schedule. I must finish the posters today... So much work so little time.
So the event promoting business hasn't been going so well. I put together a short but sweet sponsorship commitment sheet and that seems to have killed all the interest from possible sponsors that I had. I am not sure why either considering that the most expensive sponsorship request is only $1000 dollars I thought that I would get a lot of call backs. It basically broke down into this....
Presented by rights = $1000
Secondary Sponsors= $250
Tertiary Sponsors= $100
Then told them that the monies were going to pay for 3 bands and a burlesque troupe. I did give them until the 15th of next month to send in their monies but I also denoted that limited space was available in each category hoping to stir a bit of urgency into people. So far it has not worked... I still haven't got an agreement with the bar I wanted to use for this event and my backups are waning at best. So frustrating...
I do have the poster designs ready and I would share them here but they are so large I can't get my computer to reduce them to a viewable size on the internet. Trust me when I say they are impressive though. The design is a gal playing the double bass in the foreground with a psychedelic background that kinda draws you into the poster. The colors selected are black, white, purple, lime green, and hot pink.(I know, I know what your thinking why the fuck hot pink?) The colors in combination really pop, the full intent is to get people to look at this advertisement and I think that these colors will do that. There are a couple of "Roth" style heads at the top with their eyes all bugged out and staring at the girl playing the bass. Between them is the name of the event and at the bottom will be the location, the name of the bands and the secondary sponsors.

Not quiet sure how I got myself talked into this... but it looks like I am now a promoter. I have a friend in California that is in a band and he'd asked me to help him book a venue. I told him that I would do what I could and got started making phone calls to different venues around town. Then he asked if I knew of any other bands that would be interested in playing with them so I did the hustle and got another band lined up with a third band slot that is left open at this point. The he says "oh burlesque girls would be cool to have at the event, do you know any"... yes, a few ..."call them up". So now I am seeking girls that want to do the show... and I now I have a magazine and possibly a brewery and a distiller interested in sponsoring an event that started out as just another gig.

February Freakout
HOLY SHIT BALLZ!!!! I started advertising my business on Facebook today. I wasn't very optimistic when I paid for my advertising subscription. At any rate... I was guessing I might get one or 2 clicks a day. But I got 400 in an hour and my budget just got blown the Fuck out of the water!!! I hope this brings work and I am not paying for nothing otherwise I am going to go broke on advertising alone...
So I am sitting at my desk at home Christmas Eve morning trying to get some work done on the few jobs I have right now and the Owner of the company that I just quit working for text messaged me;
"We handled that situation all wrong, and want you to come in to speak with us next week to discuss future work with us. Hope you have happy holidays..."
WTH! So now I guess I am going in to talk to them about continuing to work for them from home. I will keep y'all posted.

This is going to be an interesting Christmas. All three of my mothers children are unemployed, I have potential work but no money, my oldest sibling has a little money from a pension package but no potential income, and my youngest has neither potential nor existing monies. In fact my youngest is in the worst position of us all because her step children are moving in with her now. The kids are teens the step daughter 16 with a 5 month old baby the step son 17 with a 3 month old baby both are bringing their significant others. To top that she just adopted her husbands ex-wife's bastard child because she went to jail three months ago for drug charges and CPS had the kid up until Tuesday of this week.
All the unemployment I blame on the economy, and the unintelligent spending of our tax dollars. We need another tech/science boom... something that will give companies lots of work and money to bolster the economy. The auto industry is screwed, the federal reserve is a joke, our farms are dying, and the housing market is drowning. I am just hoping that the US doesn't go down like Russia and Argentina have.

Lighter note... An upward turn of events since my last post. Turns out my NYE event poster has gained a lot of fans and this morning I had three calls about new graphics design work. First one is a new business card logo for a local DJ, the second one is for a websites corporate logo and the third one is the one that will be the most fun I am sure a "chubby girl" burlesque troupe wants me to do their entire graphics package that's website, t-shirts, stickers, and an event poster for their next event in February. 
So I quit another job today... this is the third job I quit in 2 years. In the last 17 years I quit I quit a total of 4 jobs. Employers suck these days, they think that because we are in a down economy they can try and pay you shit, thinking that they will be able to keep you because your afraid of losing your job. Fuck that! My rent hasn't lowered because of a down economy, my bills haven't lowered because of a down economy why should I take a pay cut because it's a down economy?
