So where do I start? It's been a hell of a journey. I have been dealing with a maelstrom of health issues. And while i would like to say that I am recovered, I can't. I'm not looking for sympathy. I am just trying to explain my absence to the wonderful people that I have met here.

I have lived the life of a zombie this year. My energy level is at dead zero. I apparently have mystified the doctors. Lucky me to have that ability. Finally they believe they have the answer and maybe they do. But the cure is not pretty and it will be a long hard climb back.

So I'm taking this opportunity to thank all of you that have befriended me here, forgive all those who have attacked me, and apologize for my long and silent absence.

I wish the best for all of you, and hope that I will be in your thoughts and prayers.

in the meantime - SO LONG AND THANKS FOR ALL THE FISH - zoom image

In case you aren't sure what this button is referencing, O'Donnell once said that masturbating was essentially a form of adultery and that people should abstain from it. This was in the 90's, but it's still fun to mock.

We can't all be the good witch.....

We all like to think we are the good witch but the truth is, there is always someone waiting in the weeds, hoping a house will fall on us so they can snatch our pumps. Then they call all their friends, get high on lollipops and if we are really lucky, even the mayor jumps on board to gloat. Been there?

For the first time in years, I went to a Halloween party Saturday night. I'm not big into Halloween but I love to dress up. Never did as a kid. Never wore pink. I was the girl who thought more of Malibu Barbie's Corvette than her prom gown. That was even if you could get me to even play with Barbie. I was more into exploring and rockhunting..

Anyway, my plan for this party was to be the Good witch or some sort; a fairy, a woodland witch or something like that. The hub could be Frankenstein - that is plausible for him. But, I was planning on being cute, sexy and sweet.

I grabbed my gear and headed to my bathroom to start the transformation - makeup and such. I really don't know what happened but, the darkness came. The black eyeliner jumped into my hand and went to town on my face. Cute little swoopie lines went to evil heights and the good witch was no more. I'm a brunette and you know we are never allowed to be the "good" ones anyway - we always end up being the vamps. I never did do "cute" well, I was disappointed that I could not summon a good witch to save my life but, if a house fell on me tonight, at least I would understand.

As we drove up to the party, all the cute little munchkins were flitting here and there when Frankenstein and I walked up. We had our concerns. Would they run and hide in the flowers or dance on our heads and sing annoying little songs with lollipops in hand?

It went great. The hippies, misfits, big-boobed cross dressers, Frankenstein and I got to see the Giants win the pennant while noshing eyeball deviled eggs and later I met up with one of the reps from Munchkinland.

Lacy was a well spoken little one. A close-talker but quite congenial. I tucked my feet close under my rear and enjoyed a pleasant conversation with her while she shared her sweets and wisdom. Ultimately, she offered me her shoes. Minnie Mouse with sparkles. I let her keep them. I am after all, a good witch.

Happy Autumn Equinox!

Equal hours of light and darkness
we celebrate the balance of Mabon,
and ask the gods to bless us.
For all that is bad, there is good.
For that which is despair, there is hope.
For the moments of pain, there are moments of love.
For all that falls, there is the chance to rise again.
May we find balance in our lives
as we find it in our hearts.

Happy Valentine's Day!!!!

I know, I know, so many people hate this holiday because it is a completely fictitious, commercialized holiday created by the greedy corporations to force everyone into spending money on shallow tokens of love.

But, I am the first to admit that I am a sucker for commercial holidays! And Valentine's is one of my favorites!

I think any opportunity to express feelings for the ones you love is well worth taking.

A dozen roses are fine, but if you want to take the less commercial route, it will probably make a bigger statement!

I personally enjoy much more personal sentiments. I'm no expert, but I think things like participating in your loved one's favorite activity, or making their favorite dessert (even if you despise it!) will always get a bigger smile than a teddy bear or chocolate heart.

The more uniquely personal the gift, the better the surprise.

So hope your V-Day was absolutely splendid! And do't let the die-hard, Anti-Valentines Day people out there, who simply lack the imagination to celebrate this day in a non commercial way, win!

And don't buy that sad old argument that "I don't believe in celebrating my love one day a year - we should celebrate it every day". Celebrating Valentine's Day DOES NOT PRECLUDE you celebrating your love every day. kisskisskiss

20 Tips for Cheering Yourself Up - From 200 Years Ago!

I read this list in a biography of the English writer Sydney Smith, in Hesketh Pearson’s The Smith of Smiths. In 1820, Smith wrote a letter to an unhappy friend, Lady Morpeth, in which he offered her tips for cheering up.

I have my own variety of tips lists for cheering up, and I was interested to hear what someone from two centuries ago would recommend. Most of Smith's suggestions are as sound now as they were almost 200 years ago -- "attend to the effects tea and coffee produce upon you" for example, is thoroughly modern. A few, though, are amusingly odd. It might be tougher today to work "good blazing fires" into everyday life.

1st. Live as well as you dare.
2nd. Go into the shower-bath with a small quantity of water at a temperature low enough to give you a slight sensation of cold, 75 or 80 degrees.
3rd. Amusing books.
4th. Short views of human life—not further than dinner or tea.
5th. Be as busy as you can.
6th. See as much as you can of those friends who respect and like you.
7th. And of those acquaintances who amuse you.
8th. Make no secret of low spirits to your friends, but talk of them freely—they are always worse for dignified concealment.
9th. Attend to the effects tea and coffee produce upon you.
10th. Compare your lot with that of other people.
11th. Don’t expect too much from human life—a sorry business at the best.
12th. Avoid poetry, dramatic representations (except comedy), music, serious novels, melancholy, sentimental people, and everything likely to excite feeling or emotion, not ending in active benevolence.
13th. Do good, and endeavour to please everybody of every degree.
14th Be as much as you can in the open air without fatigue.
15th. Make the room where you commonly sit gay and pleasant.
16th. Struggle by little and little against idleness.
17th. Don’t be too severe upon yourself, or underrate yourself, but do yourself justice.
18th. Keep good blazing fires.
19th. Be firm and constant in the exercise of rational religion.
20th. Believe me, dear Lady Georgiana.

My favorites are #1, 3, 6, 13, 15, 16, and 17.

What rings true for you?
