So as part of my quest to be a doula, today Hendrix and i watched The Business of Being Born. If you haven't seen it, it's a documentary by Ricky Lake (remember her? luuuuvvv herrrrr) about how birth in the united states has become a "medical condition" and moved away from it's midwifery roots. Pretty interesting. I'd recommend it to anyone who's pregnant or interested BUT I have a huge problem with it and it breaks my heart. They don't mention ANYTHING about the millions of women who have given birth naturally without pain. In fact there's even a part where one of the doctor ladies is talking about how birth is a right of passage and she basically says there can't be true joy in birth without the pain. PSH I beg to differ. I'm so glad i had the privilege of a painless childbirth. It was so beautiful, not that it wouldn't have been anyway. But after having such a wonderful painless experience i really have felt compelled to help other mothers achieve the same thing. I was eager to hear them say SOMETHING about how natural doesn't equal pain but nope, nothing. I was a little disappointed so i sent them an email. i hope they read it. :/
