sinus infection + fresh nose piercings = disaster

SPOILERS! (Click to view)

Had both nostrils pierced and then got my septum done. A week or so after I got my septum done I got a sinus infection. It completely blew up my nose which despite chronic cleaning turned my piercings into war zones. One survived but was pushed upward and extremely irritated so I just took it out. Result? Metal free nose.

Really hot thai food doesn't cure them, but it's a good excuse anyway. A neti pot might help, but it's not half as fun. And of course, antibiotics will help versus a true infection.

Somehow I feel like this is a loaded question.

1) They suck
2) Decongestants help, sort of.
3) Viral sinus infections are self limiting (go away on their own) and nothing much hastens that
4) Bacterial sinus infections may or may not go away on their own, and are helped by antibiotics
5) Neti pots are good as baudot says, but Nasopure is a lot easier to use and works at least as well
6) Exercise or playing a wind instrument (I recommend tuba) will clear your passages for a little while
7) Did I say they suck?

When I recently broke my nose, I discovered I suffer from chronic sinusitis. They put me on some steroid inhaler to try and stop it but it dried out my nose so much that I was constantly thirsty and suffered from nose bleeds. The solution was worse than the problem.

they suck. i used to get them pretty much every 3 months or so when i was a teenager. claritin d worked pretty well, but i also went into see a specialist, and they discovered buildup in my maxillary sinus cavity and a slightly deviated septum. they went in with a laser and cleaned the whole thing up. i was out of action for about 3 days, but my quality of life improved markedly after.

antibiotics are best to clear them up, preferably a z-pack. OTC wise, the silly looking Neti-pot sinus rinse 2x a days is great, mucinex, and any kind of tylenol sinus crap.

i had my first one ever a few weeks ago.
it sucked.
i had to take these huge antibiotics twice a day for 14 days.

make sure you have plenty of soft kleenex in the house.

hot showers (steam will make things feel a little better)
tissues with lotion (a must!)
remove any nose piercings (they just get unpleasant)
antibiotics (go hand-in-hand with infections)

...that's all I got

The last sinus infection I had spread to my through and then into my ear canals. The pressure from the fluid trapped in my ears was excruciating. My eardrums ruptured and all this blood and puss drained from my ears. My hearing was so sensitive that I couldn't play my drums for a whole WEEK! That was really the worst part. The doctors were really rude to me too. Gave me anti-biotics, pain killers, and some ear drops. Not fun.

Get yourself taken care of sooner than later!

i know they occur far too often in western civilizations. we sanitize the shit out of everything, over-prescribe anti-biotics, and spew astronomical amounts of toxins into the environment on the daily.
having been raised without health insurance, I don’t go to the doctor, relying instead on natural anti-biotics like oregano oil (in handy capsule form) and grapefruit seed extract. both are powerfully anti-viral, anti-baterial, anti-microbial. in the winter months, eat lots of heat like cayenne or spoonfuls of that awesome asian red chile sauce, all containing capsaicin, excellent for keeping the sinuses clear and healthy. gargling with salt water or apple cider vinegar vinegar is also beneficial.
