its funny...until my new years resolution to be more active on SG i used to only come and check the sets of the day. Now, I forget to check the sets and I immediately go to check the boards.....
its funny how things can change so quickly.

We're doing a FREE show at the Adidas Originals Store in Soho with, and these are all a maybe, Chuck D, Jean Grae, and Rah Digga... We're bringing the Ching Cheng Crew from Haiti...who are all really cool and amazing

great Frank Gehry article posted today.... It gave me quite a bit of insight. My dad is an architect currently working on his "Dream House" as well and its a ton of pressure for him. Its his masterpiece. Its a lot of pressure maybe the most of his career He has a hard time discussing it.. and i know he has battled "designer's block". Anyway..glad it was posted.
Not much to report today. I have the day off of work so I'm working on the Apartment and other odds and ends. The Apartment is still coming together slowly but surely....been looking for shelves on Craigslist for the Vinyl and entertainment center. Vamos Ver....
And exceptional set today from Fergs and Valentina. Me deixa com agua na boca.

just got back from Globofest here in NYC. Saw 6 artists play in 5 hours. None of them really impressed me although I did get to see Antibalas finally...who were excellent....also saw DJ Rekha who was excellent as always... maybe I'll hit Bollywood Disco tomorrow night but definitely want to hit Basement Bhangra this month.
off to bed

9:00am... and i still can't go to sleep. I've had insomnia....well, i was out with some friends until about 7am but still... anyway, i thought i would mark the time with my top albums of 2004..here it goes:
(in no particular order)
1) M.I.A. - Arular - XL (Advanced Copy) ... Sri Lankan born..british bred..this is girl is BANANAS! She brings the fire with one part dancehall, one part hip hop, one part UK Garage, and one part style!
Politically conscience lyrics...check it out.. www.miauk.com
2) Spank Rock - S/T - Big Dada / Ninja Tune (Advanced Copy) ... ok I admit it.. this is my roommate's group...but honestly, they have one of thes best hip hop albums i have heard in a while. Amazing forward-fresh beats like if AntiPop Consortium tried to actually make you shake your ass.... and good old dirty dirty for the lyrics.
3) James Mercer - live unplugged - bootleg ... My friend Miles recorded this in PDX for KBOO. J.Mercer of the shins belting it out solo..covering Neil Young among others... beautiful
4) TV On the Radio - Desperate Youth Blood Thirsty Babes - Touch and Go ... the most original album I've heard in years. period.
5) Daara J - Boomerang - Wrasse Records ... Senegal Hip Hop superstars. They are doing for International Hip Hop what the Fugees did for Lauryn Hill
6) Candi Stanton - Candi Stanton - Hones Jon's (reissue) .. the best Soul reissue I've heard in years. I'm glad someone found these tracks
7) V.A. - Lif Yuh Leg Up - Honest Jon's ... an amazing compilation of Soca meets Dancehall and Hip Hop... bring on Trinidad
8) Tortoise - Its All Around You - Thrill Jockey
9) Air - Talkie Walkie - Virgin ... a return to form.. thank you
10) Sonar Calibrado - S/T - white label ( www.comandodigital.com )
... the best mix i've heard in years its in a similar mash-up everything including the kitchen sink style as DJ Rupture's Mindsweeper Suite mix from 2003 but totally different. From Ragga to Bhangra to Baile Funk to Antibalas to Dizzee Rascal to the Samba Schools of Rio... after 4 months of listening to it my jaw still drops everytime I listen to it.
*** a special note is that I still haven't heard the Arcade Fire which everyone and there mother says I would love..

hmmm.... I've been on this CD ripping binge for the past few days. I'm trying to build my dream music library... so far i'm up to like 60 GB..... not bad. Although i think its time to get a bigger external HD.
..this all came about after DJing for NYE and I found myself wishing I had more music with me than I brought. So this is it...I'm not giving up on the ONEs and TWOs but i'm fully embracing the ONES and ZEROs
