SANTA BARBARA, CA In correlation with National Poetry Month this April, witness the unleashing of the exciting, new, dynamic punk-rock poetry site.
With the release of TragicHero.org, Rick Tragic Anthony has emerged as a fresh young voice on the poetic scene. While studying theatre in college Rick became fascinated with the concept of the fallen hero, the classic protagonist who goes from a position of power and wealth to one of loss and despair. He explains, I wanted to take this ancient notion of storytelling and present it to a new audience for the 21st century. Rick is the author of two books: Contemporary Visions II~THE DESCENT, an epic poetic narrative of the tragic hero in the modern day and Contemporary Visions I, the punk-rock book of poetry that started it all. Im not content with merely writing poetry as much as I am in presenting to the world a great work of art. I hope TragicHero.org accomplishes this goal, states the writer.
Contemporary Visions II ~THE DESCENT takes the reader on an incredible journey akin to a modern day Dantes Inferno. Each poem skillfully advances the narrative until its climax in the final chapter, The Last Catastrophes. Poems such as, Asinine Machine and Its a Wonderful Life reflect injustices in our society. While others such as, Poetic Manifesto and King of Abrasion comment on the state of modern poetry. The attractively bound, 124 page oversized paperback gives off a mysterious serial-killer vibe with its dark colors and flame motif. Rick comments, My dream is that my collection of words will leave my readers fulfilled, that theyve experienced something great, something dangerous and ultimately rewarding.
Contemporary Visions I is a collection of thoughtful and provocative poetry ranging from childhood dreams such as, The Old Guitar Shop, to the abrasive social commentary of Eternal Martyr. What seems to draw people into this 114 page oversized paperback is its controversial styling combined with an intense in-your-face punk-rock attitude. Something forced me to read this book cover to cover, I just couldnt put it down, revealed recent UCSB graduate Jenni Mullins. That something is an exciting new voice, a haunting voice from the heart which cant be ignored. Rick Tragics words seem to hit a certain chord with young people, particularly with the goth-punk-artist types, states San Diego music club owner Davey Andrews.
Rick Tragic currently resides in Santa Barbara, CA but has lived in lovely San Diego as well. Hobbies include thrashing in the mosh pit, chasing Suicide Girls and activities which appear to have no meaning. A graduate of the University of California at Santa Barbara with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication (Marketing/Advertising), he also earned an Associate in Arts degree in Theatre Arts (Acting/Directing) from Santa Barbara City College where he received the Red & White Award for Academic Achievement and was chosen Student of the Year by the Drama Department. In addition to the excitement of TragicHero.org, Rick Tragic aspires to one day present his abrasive words against an ear-splitting, bloody, musical backdrop.
