There is, it would seem, no business like show business...

Yesterday evening I got dressed up all pretty for the press night of a show I have been working on with a couple of costumey type friends of mine. Theatre really is one of those industries where you begin to realise how cliches like "blood, sweat and tears" got coined.... but looking back on the last couple of weeks I know I wouldn't have my life any other way. It's been a long month (ONLY a month, even) chained to a sewing machine and generally not seeing the light of day while fervently stitching dancers into all manner of sparkly garments in a rather damp tunnel under London Bridge Station.
And backstage drama.... in the world of fringe theatre. Who'd have thought it?

I have been squeezing this all around my hellish retail job too, as described in my last blog, and I genuinely believe I'd not even have lasted this long in said hellish retail job had I not had the opportunity to work on this show... despite the stress that came with it.
(Briefly, on that topic, I handed in my notice today too... more on that after)

It's a different kind of stress though. It's a creative environment I feed off of.
It sort of, to be really cheesy about it, makes me feel alive.

So, anyway... Londoners (and anyone else for that matter)... go and see Victor/Victoria!

(That's a BEAUTIFULLY made dress though, I think you'll agree? whatever )

And that necklace has to be one of the ugliest yet completely fabulous things I have ever made in my life.

But anyways. It's a lot of fun. It's very, VERY gay. It is completely charming and somewhat moving and I'm pretty proud of everyone to be honest.
I am still finding sequins in everything I own. Sequins, and glitter, and marabou. Everywhere.

I may be a glutton for punishment, but someone get me back in a theatre immediately.

And then, in the 'other news' section... Yes, I quit my retail job today. It's not as triumphant as it may sound as I am leaving for what is, essentially, another retail job.
But it's in a wholly more creative environment, a smaller, independant store, and one that should provide suitable inspiration in areas of much more interest to me, considering that it's a bead shop. (MORE SPARKLES!)
It can't be anything but positive for my Etsy store either!

So. There.
Lots of things to be smiling about.
And lots of smiling being done!biggrin

The costumes look great. I totally relate to the balancing two different jobs and being insanely busy doing both.

Glad things are going well! Miss your face.
