Maybe a limited view. Not to excuse your feelings but single-minded focus has a tendency of alienating the people you love without realizing it. I always have to remind myself that nothing ever stays the same. It's a comfort.

I feel you. In the instances I've sacrificed for others the ones I've sacrificed for actually get angry at me for doing so.

Funny, I was thinking that exact thing the other day (the genetic bit). My conclusion was: it's plausible.

Anything you given someone without making them bloody well aware of it is something you've thrown away. I have no better way to put it than that at present.

Do they know whatbyou sacrificed? If they did and do not acknowledge it, then that is truly selfish.

This is total soapbox stuff so feel free to disregard is it's not your cup of tea. It's also not absolute of course but some speculation based on observation: Sadly, a lot of human beings are inherently selfish. Culture and society are supposed to promote higher ideals, promote some nobility, things for people to aspire to, and some judgement towards those who fail to rise to those higher ideals. A certain degree of conformity to social norms and shame for failing to adhere to those norms is practiced to encourage a better society overall. However, in the current age we seem more disposed to the individual. We've discarded many social norms as "old fashion". We've largely discarded the concept of shame and judgement and lumped anybody who raises an eye at another as discriminatory. We're so focused on political correctness and not offending anybody that we're smashing common sense and morals against the wall and shattering them. So, in general, don't be surprised if people disappoint you. Right now we're largely a selfish culture in many ways and common sense left some time ago. Off soapbox.

For your specific situation, we've not been given enough details to really understand. I would say though that you might want to be careful if you're in a relationship where the care and nurturing doesn't go both ways. If you're constantly giving and not getting your own needs met along the way, that's a huge red flare.
